The M4 and GTI vids are up as well, the STI vid to be released tomorrow, so it looks like it will be an all week affair till 2014 Best Drivers Car is concluded.

Looking at Randy's previous lap times:

http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna_seca.html

He was a 1:33.70 in a ZR1 compared to a 1:38.70 that Car&Driver got.

Here is my prediction for the Z/28: 1:35.30 or higher

My reasoning as follows:

Randy's skills will over come ill/scary handling. Thus power to weight ratio will rule.

The only reason the Z/28 was a giant killer (based on power to weight) in the lightning lap is the sweet handling package (no vices , no surprises) inspired confidence in the mere mortal Car&Driver test jockeys, that was not present in the high power to weight ratio cars with softer road going suspension.

While Randy is a master, I am pretty sure the C&D times are done on a day when the noise restrictions are in place which requires them to let up while on track so not really comparable to when Randy drives.

^ I've been to Laguna enough to where they sometimes have roving sound meters.
lol, its BS, but since the track is owned by the City of Monterrey (or is it county?), they have to adhere to all of the noise complaints by the neighbors.
Who the **** moves close to a racetrack to complain about noise?

In other news, water is wet.

Can't wait to see what the Z28 pulls, I'm going to guess high 1:34, low 1:35.

So far the Z/28 has hung in there with the GT-R on lap times, so I'm gonna say between high 1:36s to low 1:37s. I'd like to see it beat the Italia, we shall see.

Just watched that video.

*The GT3 "wasn't available" yet again for yet another test (blown engines)

*PDK dual clutch automatic

*Porsche Torque Vectoring
*Rear wheel steering
*Sticky tires

Porsche's Turbos are generally known to not be great track cars however this one turned an excellent time. It damn well better should given all the silicon working to help Randy I much prefer my track-cars lap times to be primarily carbon based.

Bottom line: incredible all-weather touring car that sounds like a vacuum cleaner and while you don't have to walk up to it backwards as you would a Panamera, I can't say the look of it stirs any emotions at all.

If the Z/28 turns a faster lap than this car, honestly I will be shocked and amazed. I suppose it's possible but I'm not planning to see it.

CSB

my great uncle helped open the dragstrip here way back in the 60s. For a long time it closed. Then one of the owners invested back into it and opened it again in the early 90s.

Housing starts going up around the race track and all of a sudden restrictions after restrictions are passed on the track

The owner eventually went to court and won because he was there first and had all the proper paper work to operate etc. All he really wanted was a couple of friday night races and the city was going to try and shut it down.

People see cheap land and build. But then get pissed that a quarry, race track, airport etc are only 2 miles away

Even worse, at Laguna Seca the track has been there for 50+ years. They built the track because people were getting upset about the potential dangers of the street races in the area. This worked fine for about 40 years...

Then, people started building mansions on the tops of the ridges. These bozos -- and there is one who is a perpetual thorn-in-the-side of the track -- want the track gone.

I've talked to a number of HPDE organizers who run there. My firm belief is that we need to put a stop to these Entitled People. We're running street legal cars, for the most part, that meet all the requirements of the state. I've suggested that we get 100 or so event participants to take slow tours through neighborhoods around the track, to send a very clear message that if we do NOT have places to enjoy our cars safely, we'll end up on the roads. Both our roads and theirs...
