Well, I'm not going to bother buying a Z/28 if I can't put chains on it.

You're going to buy a $75,000 track monster and drive it in the snow? Good Lord.... Cue the circus music:

I guess not everyone has an interesting life in the bedroom. O.o

For the 54th time, no chains, not even cable chains, on a Camaro. Blizzaks are a good snow tire without studs. You can get them studded as well, depending on how you want to run/ what your state laws are.

If it were me, I'd really look at getting a winter beater. Even if you can make the car go down the road, there's always ice and crud to tear up the air splitter, rockers, etc.

What chains allow me to maintain the most Gs in a turn?

When I bought the car they made me sign a thing that said if I needed to to use cables, not chains

Interesting... did not know that chains were outlawed in some states. Here, there are a series of "road condition ratings," (from R-1 through R-5, I believe) that denote the chain requirements. Under certain conditions, you MUST have chains (or cables, studs will not be accepted) in order to be permitted travel. Some conditions require all four wheels to be chained. The Highway Patrol sets up roadblocks, and without chains , you will not be allowed passage.

That said.. I wouldn't put chains on a Camaro. I've chained everything else I've ever had, but the book says no to chains on this car. Yes, I do drive around in the snow a hell of a lot (generally, it's a matter of getting to the Highway Patrol roadblock areas BEFORE they get there to set up shop), and the car does really well in the snow. Traction control (and the judicious use of it, on and off for different situations), and the other dynamics of the car make it very driveable in snow and ice.

I cannot imagine the horror of the body damage should one crosslink break. I have a Silverado fender that was beat all to shit in the time it took me to come to a stop from the time I heard the first fender- bashing smackdown of one crosspiece.

I didn't cry when my dog died; I almost cried when my truck got torn up... I WOULD cry, like a sobbing little girl, if my Camaro's fender were beaten to shreds by a crosslink.

If the snow is so high that you're debating putting chains on, you shouldn't be in a Camaro driving through it.
