A bit of advice before my car is delivered please..

Hello...

I wonder if I could ask for some advice before my car arrives, so I can get everything ready to be done as soon as it arrives.

My 2SS (auto) is currently on a ship on its way to me, and should be ready for me to pickup in a month or so.

There is 500 miles on the car, so is basically new, is completely stock with GRound kit. I plan to do a few things to it as soon as I get it, but would appreciate some advice from you guys what would be best.

- Catch can .. What product would you recommend, and from where.
- Cold Air Intake .. I'm leaning toward the K&N typhoon , is this a good product ?
- Electric cutouts .. Is there any good quality reasonable priced ones in the UK?
- What exhaust would you recommend, or should I look at custom made?
- Any recommendation on South/South West/Wales where I could take the car for quality servicing and the like?

And very importantly , I would like to get the AFM switched off in the tune , rather than buying a tuner just to do this, is there anywhere you can recommend to get this done?

Thanks for any help and input .

Cheers
Anthony

Nice one, I bet you feel like a kid on christmas eve every night! :-)

You're slightly more ahead than me at the moment but my offer has just been accepted by a dealer in Nashville, Tennessee. I'm in the process of sending funds so far.

What are you doing when it arrives in the UK, are you using a company such as shipmycar.co.uk? A friend of mine did it himself and did incur unexpected costs every step of the way. One thing he said is to make sure you have a company ready to take it out of the container at Felixstowe because unloading is not included.

I know that the 1LE camaro's come with GM part number 12653073, PCV Oil Separator Kit, I don't know much about catch can's but have a look at that part. When GM sell 1LE's, they include this part but it's up to the customer to fit it themselves because they says it only for track use, probably something to do with govt emission regs.

I can't recommend anywhere for servicing but on the UK Chevrolet website it appears that the only GM approved service centre is Bauer Millett, I've heard good things and bad things about them from friends with GM vehicles; but I was also told it depends which technician you deal with.
They are in Manchester so hopefully someone else on here can advise for the South Wales region.

Won't be long before you can give it a blast across the Severn Bridge on the M4. Happy days!

Regards,

Pete

Regarding the exhaust I would really recommend mine. It's a Magnaflow x-pipe 4" bore from the cat back and has no rear mufflers. Very loud, deep bass and pops and bangs on over run. Not sure how much it costs as it was on it when I got it. Other guys have simply removed the mufflers from the standard exhaust which is very loud but I don't think it's as bassy.

Look it up on YouTube if you have some decent speakers.

For my two penneth;

I bought the CAI system simply based on the US forum saying it was the best. Whether it's worth the £400+ to import rather than picking up the cheaper K&N in the UK I don't know.
Exhaust - I went for the back box removals and replaced with straight pipe (bent). Custom Chrome in Nuneaton did the work for £250 which included a pair of chrome tips. It now sounds like a V8 but isn't silly loud and there's no drone whatsoever.
You can get a plug in to the OBD port to stop the AFM and there are hundreds of pages on the US site about them. If you don't want it to drop onto 4 cyls then stick it in M, change up to 2nd then back down to 1st and hey presto no AFM.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check those out thanks. Im way too impatient , never had to wait for something so long, bought it in July! But all will be forgotten when the keys are in my hand

I have had shipmycar do the full job, from pickup in Oklahoma to IVA modification, and registration in the UK, seemed like the easiest way, without surprises!

Hope you don't have to wait as long as me

Cheers

Thanks for the recommendation , I have heard Magnaflow mentioned a few times, so will definitely check it out, appreciated.

Thanks for the input , I am considering the CAI but with no UK supplier (that I can find) not sure if it's worth the extra compared to the K&N, it may well be, I just don't know, that really my qandry!

Thanks for the exhaust info, I thought that might be the route for me also and maybe get them to add quad tips, but not sure if there would be enough space for it until I actually see the car - bought unseen except for pics!

I've read about the afm device, but it concerns me that some say it throws engine codes, which would worry me just because it would worry me I may go that route, just prefer it switched off in the tune.

Cheers

If you tune it off then you won't get the benefit of better fuel consumption on longer runs. If I sit on a motorway at 85 mph with cruise control on, I get 28 mpg !! For every day I just use manual and the 1st, 2nd, 1st trick to turn it off.

That makes sense, particularly as I'm planning a few long road trips , I think I'll see how I feel after a few months then make a decision.

I've just fitted the K&N Typhoon. No complaints. Not really noticed any power gains but I drive like an old woman so thats hardly surprising. It certainly makes a difference to the sound of the car though!

Thanks, that's a good point, if there really is no real noticeable power gain, then I could probably achieve a similarly pleasing sound by just exhaust mods which I will probably do anyway and save on the cost of the k&n.

Maybe do the exhaust then decide on the cold air intake.

Cheers

SS Camaro

There are many exhoust systems out there depends on the noise you want to make. On my 2014 SS convertible I installed a Borla SS cat back system with SS mid pipes. Take the 'old resonators off'. A roto fab cold air intake with a cermic input pipe and the throttle response now is truly incredible. Other goodies I have added LED side markers, wheel center caps painted and oracle led mirrors.
