My story is very similar.....got my first job at 12 and have worked ever since. Bought my first car (used '69 Camaro) at 16 and paid cash. Some kids are not just handed things - by the way, when my kids were growing up I bought their first cars. Why? Because they were working hard in all their responsibilities including school.....after growing up with a father whose ideas about work and school were formed in the Great Depression, I came to believe that their primary job at that age should be getting an education and growing up.....joining the workforce can wait.

A valid perspective. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I'm torn on how I will handle the car matter (which is quickly approaching).
