Talking PICS Update 8-27 IOM Going in for Black Custom Stripes

My baby is going in the booth for stripes. I decided against the 2tone for a number of reasons, but mainly because after actually getting the car, realized I just love the IOM too much to cover up half the car with another color, especially the part of the car that looks the best in bright Sunlight. It does need a little customization though and painted stripes will be just the ticket.

I'm working with Greg @ Performance Auto Body in Manassas, VA. He's owned more 1stgen Camaro's and Corvettes than I'll ever dream of owning, so I know I'm going to be thrilled with the results and the attention he's going to give my car.

I'll be sure to post pic's as I get them from Greg. I'm replicating the stripes found on this Yellow 2SS but with light pearl dusting to better match the IOM. The Stripes we mocked up were 14" wide with a 6" center gap plus the pinstripes. UPDATE: These stripes are 16 1/2" wide with the same 6" center gap

Updated 10/23 - Paint Codes for the BLACK Pearl Stripes

He uses Sherwin Williams automotive paint.

Black = Ultra 7000 # 7218 Base
Pearl = Crystal Silver Pearl # PT30

The mix is 50 Grams Base to 0.4 Grams of Pearl.

UPDATED 8/27:

Axle-Back Exhaust replacement:

I just got the SLP LM II Axle back kit in the mail today... I'll put this on likely this upcoming weekend.

Black Pearl Bumblebee Stripes:

The clear just went on today, but Greg wanted to wait to buff the panels off the car and said it would take a few more days until I can actually pick up the car. Darn, I'll miss this weekend. We ended up 16.5" stripes to match the Bumblebee width and I think a lot of people will agree that the proportion on these stripes are great looking on a car this wide.

If you click the pic, you can go to the full resolution pic... there you'll see some of the pearl in the black with this shot...

Oh my Poor Car!!

Just as a comparison, notice how wide the stripes are on the 1st GEN cars are in relationship to the width of the car itself. These stripes have more in common with the 1st gen camaro's that just about any other stripes I've seen except they don't go straight of the end of the bumper... The stripes have much better proportion to the car IMHO than the OEM Vinyl by a long shot...

I'll post more pics as the car get's reassembled and the bowties are painted etc....

Congrats! I'm getting mine done this coming week. Dropped the car off today and then left straight for vacation in Florida. She'll be ready for me next saturday. I love Florida...go every year and never want to leave. This will be the first year I'm anxious to get back so I can pick up my baby.

I'm getting my stripes painted similar to how you are getting yours done. I definitely think the wider stripe looks much better.

I was quoted $1000 for the stripes. I also told him to remove the GM chiklets on the lower front fender. I'll be adding some "SS" emblems, probably the ones made for the Cobalt. I saw an "SS" Cobalt at his shop and they are perfectly sized for the cowl and under the Camaro and the fenders as well.

BTW, I have a set of "NIB" Black Factory Vinyl Stripes that came with the car that I'm selling... make me an offer. I'll post the eBay listing once I get it listed next week.

BUMP For New Pics

I got the car back today, albeit without the Spoiler.

See OP for new Pics

The painter was having a tough time getting the rounded corners "just right" so he said he'd take a couple more days to work on it.

Greg Gulledge (owner/president) of Performance has been great to work with and I'd definitely recommend him to anyone within 100 miles interested in putting down some painted stripe.

Added video of the walkaround

Here's the video of the stripes... it's impossible to show just how beautiful these Pearl stripes are unless you're looking at them in direct sunlight, in person, just like the IOM... totally stunning.

The Vanity Plate I ordered... just to set up the Video... "OH YE4H"

The Bowties were painted too. The spoiler will be back tomorrow.
Enjoy...

Well...

In my area, near Wash, DC; I'd have to guess for this quality you'd expect to pay around $1200 to $1500. Keep in mind that taking off the front facia is a must for a proper job and that's very time consuming, I also got the "bowties" painted and 2 new "SS" tags for the fenders thrown in.

That said, I kinda botched the first attempt with the painter so my final bill definitely doesn't reflect what the real cost was for the bodyshop had everything been decided on correctly the first time. Word of advice, be really sure of what you want. The owner was willing to work with me "above and beyond" mostly because I think he's so passionate about muscle cars and Camaro's in particular and wanted the end result to be top notch.

BUMP for B;ack Pearl Paint CODES

To all the IOM Guys thinking about painted stripes similar to mine that want to go with a Pearl, rather than Gloss Black...

Here's the mixture used for you to give to your painter..

Sherwin Williams automotive paint.

Black = Ultra 7000 # 7218 Base
Pearl = Crystal Silver Pearl # PT30

The mix is 50 Grams Base to 0.4 Grams of Pearl.

If you're in the Northern VA/DC/MD area, consider going to the source to have your stripes painted.

Perfomance Auto-Body in Manassas 703-335-9638

Tell Greg I sent you...
