Oh buddy if I could afford a zl1 at 21 I would! But a v8 is still within my price range. I'm more leaning towards getting a v8 now because the mods are endless when you think about it wheras with a v6 you're kinda limited to how much you can put into it.

Personally i might spend $200 a year max in refills. 3rd, you will see alot of the nitrous guys going faster then the Supercharged.

Dont get me wrong, there are some drawbacks to nitrous, but if setup properly and used wisely its a good alternative to buying the v8. Obviously if gas mileage isnt a concern you can mod the v8 to go faster then the v6. Just wanted to throw another alternative out there. Personally, i plan to keep this car and hopefully do a 50th Anniversary edition when they become available. Hopefully the HP will be in the 600 range and price below $65k
^This... as long as you are safe & smart it is the most cost effective way to make the V6 faster. I think I have right around $1K invested in my nitrous setup... I run faster that a few of the V8's around here as well.

I still think in your situation I would upgrade if you can afford it and haven't went crazy with mods on your current one.

Next spring your car will be nearly six years old. Save your pennies until then and trade in for a '13/'14 (New or nearly new) ZL1. You'll have the power you yearn for (+ some), a new car, and a full warranty. Don't waste your money S/Cing a six year old V6.

A zl1 is so tempting but it's way out of my price range. If I could afford one is definitely be going down that alley but I can really only afford to get an SS!

Your car looks nice, but I just can't own a sport scar with a V-6 Thats just me It's all about the sound.

This, and the fact a ZL1 being a specialty car will hold value.

I love how peeps just tell others to buy out of their range.

He bought a V6 for a reason I'm sure. And I'm just guessing money paid a small part in that. A S/C V6 is just right around a base V8.

Going to a 2SS or a 1LE might put this upgrade/trade in out of his range.

Hell.... I'd take a ZL1 to if the trade in was in my budget range. lol

Well this peep doesn't know what his range is... only that OP "was thinking of either supercharging my V6 or selling/trading and getting a V8". All that tells me he apparently has the range to go to a V8. So, when he asks "Would just like some opinions from you guys and any advice would be greatly appreciated!" My advice stands. A S/C ain't cheap (even for a V6) and the gain (in my opinion) would not be worth it on a six year old car with no warranty.

How do we know this? From what I found, an IPF Supercharger System is around $6K. Now I'm no S/C expert by any means, but it seem that taking a 305 HP V6 up to 435HP (according to IPF) would also require beefing up some other parts if one planned on using that newly gained HP to its fullest. Please educate me. What else would OP need to upgrade? Engine internals, brakes, axles, drive shaft, rear end, transmission, suspension, maybe even wheels/tires, etc??? If so, how much more would that be? I don't know... I'm asking sincerely. No way I'd put that much into a nearly six year old car.

It just seems to me that in the Spring of 2015, OP could get a pretty damned good deal on a slightly used (under 10K miles) 2013 (or so) ZL1. Get a solid 3+ year warranty. And have substantially more car than he currently has... for (I don't know) $25K? $16K-$18K if you factor in the savings of S/C-ing the V6.

Exactly! OP would never get his money out of a S/C'd V6, should he have to sell it.

Seriously... don't rule anything out. You might be amazed at what you can get next spring if you look long enough. There will be new (or nearly new) '13s and '12s on some lots or from desperate private sellers. You have a nice car that looks to be in great shape. Trade in or retail value might really surprise you. Be patient. Save up some $$$ towards a down-payment. If your car is paid for or close to it, a deal may be doable. **Don't get upside down on a note though, just to get more HP).

Perhaps....

I don't have time to get into a pissing match with you over this topic. lol

Hands down getting a 1SS or a ZL1 is always a better option HP wise over a S/C V6. Although a S/C V6 has the weight advantage on a track over the SS.....

I'm guessing to do it right you'll need to spend close to 10k to S/C and buy some upgraded driveline parts. The equation financially get closer between the SS and V6 if you start comparing V6 S/C to a used SS or ZL1. I was basing my rough calculations on traded in V6 vs. S/C V6 vs. new SS or ZL1.

There are just too many unknown financial considerations in play here. I'm guessing he wants to stay in the 30-35k range but I could be wrong.

Most V6 buyers are around the 25-30k range. If he can swing the 40-45k range or pick up a used V8 (there are some great deals out there) then I'd go that route.

Well, I just went so you'd probably win. Anyway... I was just trying to bring out all the variables to consider and you're right, there are too many unknowns to make a sound judgment. It can be amazing though, what a dealer will do to mark down another sale for the month - especially if it clears a two year old "new" car off his lot. (I hear December is a great time to make a trade).

Well if I can find a ZL1 for around 40-45k then I'm in! lol
