2010 ss strut is loose and clunking

The front suspension of my 2010 SS has been making a popping or clunky sound over bumps at low speed. I've read about the strut bushing/bearing issue and I know it's my struts in the front.

Here is what the top of the struts look like. How can I tighten them back down?

How many mile on them? I just replaced mine for 1LE upgrade. 39k and notice a big improvement afterwards.... Mine were not performing well so I did them all... struts and shocks... I know you can pull them off and tighten the bolt but I dont think it will get you much...

Phasteck has a how to video on spring replacement. That will show you how to tighten the bolt up.

Same mileage, but I don't have the cash to upgrade struts right now. Just looking to tighten everything up. I'll check out the video you mentioned.

Can you link to what you've read about the strut bearing issue please? I've had this clunk and I thought it was my door, but both my front strut caps look exactly like yours...

I had clunk in my vert, and it ended up being resonator hitting the cross brace. Dealership shimmed and it is all better.

Here are 2 threads you can read through, with a bunch of supposed causes

Next weekend I'm gonna pull my front struts out and see if it is the mount or bearing/bushing I have been hearing about.

Also, I've realized that there needs to be some room up top in the engine bay, at the strut, because the top portion I have pictured wiggles when you steer. Open your hood and turn your wheel, you'll see them move.

That doesn't look much different than mine before or after 1" BMR springs.

I too have a little noise from the passenger front, but everything seems fine so I don't worry about it.

I'm no expert, that doesn't look too unusual. Are you parked flat? Cut the wheels and take a look. Those things move around.

Those things attached to the top of the strut are the rebound stops. They keep your top mount from being overloaded if there is ever a negative load applied (i.e. you go airborne, or the car gets lifted on a hoist). They should not be tight against the strut tower with your wheels on the ground, they need some room to move.

If the rubber element in the top mount is failing, or your top mount bearing is shot, that is a different issue. you can replace the top mount without replacing the whole strut. You can probably find a local shop to replace the top mount if you pull the strut module out and take it to them.
