Swapped pads - peeling and discolored grease?

Swapped my Hawk Ceramic pads out for the HP+ pads for my first track session at VIR on October 4th (Single session hyperdrive). I'm swapping them back out now, as I've been riding around on the HP+ pads for about a week total (went on vacation - possibly more than that, but I didn't think it would cause much of a problem).

After I took them off, I noticed that the normally-red gearhead grease (Came with the pads) is discolored - almost looks like regular vaseline, with an off-whitish/yellowish color to it. The pads are kind of 'flaking' on the outside edges, and some of the paint on the back of the pads (where the pistons push on the pads) is flaked off as well. My brother also drives a 2010 Camaro SS and got the exact same pads as I - his appear to be normal.

There are only a few things I can think of that might have caused this:
  1. Improper burnishing (I didn't get up to the speed that I should have when burnishing them, as I got them on late at night, and decided to do them in a parking lot a bit further away from the residential area - I don't think there are any glazing issues, but I honestly am not as mechanically inclined as my brother.)
  2. Overheating - VIR is a fairly fast track, and I've never braked so hard in my car before tracking it. Perhaps this plays into #1?
  3. I bled the brakes after installing the new pads - I definitely got some brake fluid on the calipers (it was a messy ordeal - first time bleeding brakes), but I made certain to rinse off the calipers, though not nearly as well as I could have (poured a cup of water over each) -- Perhaps the most likely culprit? I have not had any paint come off of the brembos.
  4. Pistons leaking? My fluid resevoir doesn't appear to be much lower (if at all). Maybe only under hard braking? I doubt this is the case, but always a possibility, I suppose. Any way to know this for certain?

That's all I can really think of right now. I have included pictures. Is it still safe to use these again in two weeks, despite having the paint coming off of the backing? Or, perhaps more generally, is there any significant cause for alarm?

P.S. I have yet to take off the back pads - I'm thinking they might - I'm still throwing the other (daily driving) pads on, and worst come to worst, I'll see if they exhibit the same symptoms - if so, I think I've got a larger problem on my hands.

Back of the pads:

Side of the pads (dunno if you can see the flaking)

The calipers themselves

Face of the pads - don't really see anything wrong with them

I think that this is normal - Don't seem to have any issues with brakes, and I think this is simply because of the high temperatures of running hard around VIR causing the dye in the brake grease to denature. And I think I have seen the paint peel off of the pads before. My brother didn't think there was an issue, either. My brother was stuck behind a lot of slower cars at VIR, so he didn't get the chance to run nearly as hard as I did (and thus get his brakes as hot).

Just a little update in case anyone finds this thread later on

So far as I can tell, the rotors don't look any worse for the wear. The ceramic pads are back on, and I haven't noticed any issues - i.e. vibration, sticking, etc. Physically speaking, the rotors appear the same as they did as before I put the HP+s on.

For what it's worth, I have that same spot on all 4 of the front brake pads - the rears don't really have the flaking like the fronts do, but they do have very tiny black spots on the face of the pads, somewhat similar to the last picture. (not enough to really be concerned with).

Is it possible this might be some form of glazing? I've never seen what glazed pads look like, but I always assumed they would be kind of 'shiny' or whatnot.

Looks normal to me. The heat created at the track is what's causing it all. I wouldn't worry about it.

Best regards,
