He didn't go back to second, sounds like he power shifted from 1st to 2nd.

This was the 1-2 shift. I was gettin' on it. My shift light was set at 6100, so, to the best of my recollection, I shifted at 6100 (I vaguely recall the light appearing), engine revved to redline during shift. As soon as I let out the clutch, a god-awful noise happened that sounded like gears being stripped out. Clutched again and coasted to a stop. Motor was/is locked in both directions.

For what it's worth. The car had previously begun to have a ticking noise at idle that I never investigated.

Is the head and block still good ? That should not have happened at that rpm.

Head is reusable for now but banged up pretty good from piston parts going out the intake. Block is definitely toast. A hole in the side behind the motor mount about the size of my thumb and cracked parallel to the oil pan. If you look closely though you can see the rod journal where the #4 rod should be attached, but it's not. I pulled the other head and #4 piston is broken and sitting close to TDC-valve hit it and broke it after rod detached.

I do all my service on all my vehicles. Every time I do the oil on my Camaro, I purchase a factory oil filter at the dealership. So years from now if I get the same engine problem, proof of oil changes is in their data bank.

Sorry for your loss.

Good thing is that these engines are plentiful/cheap in the salvage yards.

They shouldn't make you prove you changed the oil, maintenance etc. They should have to prove you didn't to void the warranty. I would talk to another dealer, its worth an LS3 IMO.

Yeah... lots of first model year Gen5 warranties expiring lately.

Sorry to see this, OP.

That will make it easier to get the crank bolt out.

How do the heads and cam look? Part of the cause?

From what I can see the stock rod is there and intact. So that has got to be detonation right? How does that happen on a stock engine? Need an engine building and tuning expert to chime in please for educational purposes. Also, unless you did your own oil changes there should be a record. If that engine truly was stock I would be super pissed and would want warranty if it was under 5yrs. Has it been 5yrs on that car yet?
