East bound on I-44, I was going 88 when I saw the trooper going west. He lit me up with the lights and I noticed there is 3-strand cable guard rail in the median between us. I realized he would have to make up a lot of real estate to come over the to the east bound lanes so I punched it. I can't say for sure how fast I got up to because I wasn't looking at the speedo. When I saw the next exit fast approaching, I looked at the speedo and saw 145 as I let off the gas. I got off the highway, went over the overpass and pulled into a gas station. When I opened my door, I hear the siren in the distance. I assumed it was the trooper now making his way east at a fast rate. I wonder if he's still out there looking for me.

172 is not a hard speed to hit....I don't understand the disbelief. In Germany my father had a Ford Sierra, which was a 4 cylinder, and it would do 173 on the Autobahn.
And he still got his doors blown off by a white lamborghini countach like he was doing 100 one day. I suspect the Camaro could easly do that same if it wern't for the speed limiter.

Unless he got passed by a rare special Countach, most of them topped out in the 170-190 range. No street legal Countach that I know of in those days was capable of 200+; they just weren't stable enough at higher speeds. Once you get up in those speed ranges car stability becomes a serious factor so thinking it's easy to hit those speeds is not really true. If you're relying on "stories" you heard, it sounds like some stretching might have been done for the sake of telling an entertaining story.

The Z06’s LS7 7.0L engine delivers 505 horsepower (377 kW) in a 3,132-pound (1,421 kg) package – a combination that delivers 0-60 performance of 3.7 seconds in first gear, quarter-mile times of 11.7 seconds at 125 mph and a top speed of 198 mph (as recorded on Germany’s Autobahn). It also provides maximum lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and 60-0 braking in 111.3 feet; it also circuited Germany ’s famed N ü rburgring in a time of 7:43. Along with astounding performance, Corvette Z06 also returns surprising fuel economy of 26 mpg on the highway and avoids the gas guzzler tax common on the world’s supercars. and this is stock...stock sucks..lol

The only thing I was saying is 190 doesn't look possible given the acceleration speed at the end though I fully believe he could have made it near 180mph.

What is the top speed that can be reached with no tune? The highest I see is 155. I am getting my tune next Friday and can't wait.

We will probably have some higher 'official' number at the upcoming Texas Mile.
Oh, if anyone wants their car to get up past that but doesn't want to go that fast... lemme know, I'll bring my helmet
