Gear Swap?
Anyone considering a rear gear swap? I would think something around 3.90's would really wake it up and make 6th gear actually usable.

4.10s
I have a 2SS, 6sp manual but I have not changed gears yet. I am looking for a good set of gears for the 2010 that won't whine - be careful of that, design is everything on the gear angle.
However, in my 4th gen SS 6sp manual I swapped in a set of 4.10s. This made the car very friendly to drive in town, the 1/4 mile was reduced by .2 sec, and the mileage on the highway only dropped 1 mpg. RPMs went from ~2,000 at 90mph to 2,000 at 75mph. When dragging there certainly is quicker shifting required with the 4.10s, but, you're dragging so who cares. These are Richmond gears and they whine a small amount (I've re-set them about 4 times to get rid of the whine, and it is less, but not totally gone away) - but the rear end housing is so small in the 4th gen I believe there is no alternative to keep the strength required and get more teeth in the housing. The standard rear gear is a small amount lower in the 2010 but the tires (I got the 21") are way taller - at least 2", the over drive is not quite as steep in the 2010, so in the end the RPMs will probably be real close to what they are in my 4th gen. Good luck. |

4.10's would be good. Perhaps a little more aggressive than I would want.

I can't wait for some nice 3.73's to come out. Best of both worlds

I also had 4.10's in my 4th gen and loved them. These 5th gens could use a lower gear to get them rolling a little faster.

Everyone wants gears so far and yet nobody has released any. If I made gears for a living i would get on it and fast. I don't even have my car yet, its en route but I probably looking for 3.90's also from what i've read.

3.90s or 4.10s would be perfect with the SS. The 6-sp makes it a natural! The Challenger gets a 3.92:1 axle and it works out very well.

I don't know much about gears and at first I figured this car would have plenty of power for me coming from a civic si, but everyone has mentioned gears. I originally figured 3.73's would be ok but few people mentioned it better to take to steps up as minimum or your wasting your time. So I definitely hoping for 3.90's.

I Had 4.10's in my 4th Gen, used the Hyper-tech for the speedo. I was very happy with the setup and did not wish they were a higher or lower ratio.

based on power to weight & the touque curve 4.10's on a M6. If you wanted a strip car some 4.30's & 20" drag radials would work well

Will 4.10's keep everyday driveability in tact? This car will never see the strip.

I spoke to Ron at Vengeance Racing on Friday about gears. He told me there is a gear swap coming in about 2 months. He said it would require a complete differential swap. Due to the unique design, it is not as simple as swapping a single ring and pinion. This would raise the cost significantly to somewhere above $2000.
I am not an expert. This is what I was told. Ron is very active here and is an authorized dealer for Pedders, Pfadt, magnusson, procharger, etc. He has always given good advice and has steered me away from buying parts I didn't need. Just thought I would put this out there. |

for 2000 bucks i think I will just put some 15" tires on when I need to go fast...LOL That would be the most expensive gear swap in the world. Surelly someonw will come out with something better than that
