Just realized the entire Top 10 of the power adder overall list are Automatics.

Ran my first time tonight, here are some of my slips..

Ran 7 times,, first absolute disaster.. was able to get the hang of it..

Best night time was 14.161 @ 98.81
Best trap of the night was 99.31mph..
Need tips and advice to someone new at it! any an all would help. Think i need to cut my '60 a bit.

Not bad for your first time out.

Those 22"s are not helping your 60' times.

If you want to improve, I suggest a set of 18"s for the rear and a dedicated drag radial.

Here is a list I wrote up a few years back and post now and then.

Hope this helps too.

1. Over inflate your front tires to around 42 - 45 lbs. This will reduce the rolling resistance on the fronts.

2. Set the rear tire pressure to around 30 lbs. This will help with traction.

3. be sure to run 93 octanes. Preferably for the week leading up to the track time. I arrived on my second track time with a 1/4 tank of gas. Remember every 100 lb reduction is 0.1 of a second faster. Every 10 Hp increase is worth a 0.1 of a second too.

4. Turn off all traction devices and do a burnout while holding your foot on the brake. (automatics) Try and get both tires spinning and heat the stock Pirellis up.

5. Stage your Camaro with all traction control devices back on. Wheel spin is an ET killer.

6. Hold the RPM's just off idle with your right foot and with your left foot hold the brake.

7. When you see the last yellow of the xmas tree light up let off the brake and put the hammer down.

Don't worry about your reaction time at first. This only comes into play in head to head running not during test and tune time.

Go straight and let off the gas after you go thru the traps at the end. Keep in mind there is a 2nd set of lights for trap speed just passed the finish line so make sure your past this point before lifting.

Slow down and know the local track rules on departing the track.

And by all means have fun. And enjoy the legal drag racing.

rtcat600man, can you update my mods to say Ported LFX manifold instead of MACE plenum spacer. Thanks.

Next time I run and go faster there will be a lot of stuff to add, 3.91 gears are fun.

Thanks RTcat..
Yeah i realize my wheels are what kill me. At this point I'm done modding this car tho. Not getting new tires for it. I hope to trade it in the spring/summer for a nice low miles ss manual so I'm kinda done throwing money into her. Not going to say i don't love her, just so bored of driving automatic in general.

I guess i have a few questions.. everyone at the track was deflating the tires, now you are saying to over inflate. I was right around 30 psi in all 4 last night (28-30..cold day here in south florida, normally they are at about 32)..

As far as 60' what is considered a decent time.. i had my reaction at .151.. i think that was definitely decent compared to some of my other runs.. Like i said, (perhaps it was in my other post on the forum and not in this location) i had a GREAT time. My first run, you wouldn't even believe my 1/4 time.. Short of hitting the wall, i did as bad as possible. I essentially did a 1320' burnout. I let the nerves get to me.. dumped the brake @ 3k. spun, kept spinning the whole damn track.. i was like so nervous letting off the gas didn't even really come to mind.. at one point i remember looking at the speedo reading 103-105 1/2 thru the 1/4mile strip, while looking outside and knowing i couldn't be going more than 50mph lol. Lets say that was an epic first run. Almost tempted to leave so i didn't have to face the staging/ waiting area. I am off to clean the damn tar off my car right now...

Not sure I'm willing to tell you the time of my first run, it is beyond embarrassing.. lets say my trap was the speed of perhaps a 50cc scooter going downhill :/ Yikes.

You're only "over inflating" the FRONT tires, running more air in them makes the tread more rounded which means less of the tire contacting the track surface... It's less drag.

You're deflating the REAR tires (to a point), so there is basically more of the tread patch touching the track for better traction, less wheel spin. Do not let TOO much air out because then the tread patch will "cup" and you will lose traction, etc...

It wasn't mentioned, but I prefer to let the car shift by itself... I wouldn't try to use the paddle shifters on the track, the car will shift itself better you you can try to.

Nice time though, especially for your first time out...

Unrelated side note... I have a feeling that a certain SOMEONE may break into the 11s this weekeeeenddd

I don't blame you for not wanting to put anymore into this current build, especially if you are moving on to a SS. Enjoy it while you have it, you did well with it for what you have today.

Jason answered the whole tire inflation issue and is spot on.

COOL.

11's, just needs to get traction, as it is cold thruout the country.

and for sure with today's automatics doing so well, let the computer and car do all the shifting for you.

That would be cool for SOMEONE to break into the 11s. I'm keeping an eye out for this one. On a final note, all done except the wiring inside the car. Hope the weather holds out this weekend. :-)

You know the way this forum is. The secret won't stay "bottled" up to long.
