Losing Oil

I have noticed that my oil quantity has been slowly decreasing since I bought the car. I attributed it to the mileage that I drive and it being burned slowly. However with this cold weather I have lost half a quart in a few days.

A few nights ago I was driving down a runway and had a friend on a motorcycle behind me. He said everytime I accelerated hard and my car shifted he could see a puff of purple smoke followed by the smell of oil burning. I kept accelerating and after 20 passes rechecked oil. I was missing an entire quart yet the block is clean. The gaskets seem fine as well. Viscosity would increase quantity it if anything.

It was warmed at idle for a half hour prior and is never really accelerated hard until recently. No obvious leaks but at idle I can smell it burning.

The dealer refuses to look at it. They simply said it is "normal" for oil to burn in winter when driven hard.

Highway and country driving has left my coolant temp at 200-220F. During 105F days it was 189F max at idle!

Any ideas on my poor LFX?
Scored cylinder?

The V6 motors are notorious for burning oil. Have a look around this forum. There are many threads on this problem.

If this were my car, I would do a leak down test and a compression test. Put my mind at ease one way or another. They are easy to do. If you do not own a compressor, take it to your local mechanic. For a couple of hundred bucks see whats going on in your engine.

Good Luck
