I have never tried it with the traction control on. As far as I can tell, the traction control would not serve any purpose at all because it will just shut down if it determines that the tires are spinning which will abort your run immediately. With other cars (like some of my old Mercedes) it actually could help because it wasn't such an abrupt change with the traction control on. Trust me with traction control "on" it cannot help you ever with our Camaros. PTM 5 may be a help but I doubt it. On a road course PTM modes really help a lot...on the dragstrip they don't help at all.

I think I had my car at the drag strip 3 or 4 times before I got drag radials. All of these early runs were made with between 750 and 830 whp. When I had that kind of power and street tires, the car was going to spin tires. Spinning tires reduces your time. You may be able to run good trap speeds but when the tires are spinning you are losing seconds. I think 11.6 at 137mph was about the best I ever did on street tires. At that time I tried every PTM combination possible and I was pretty frustrated. I could not get the car to make a pass without spinning tires and obviously those times were relatively slow. I even let other people try to drive my car and see if they could beat my time. No one ever did and when they got out they would say you need better tires. In those situations my best times were with the traction control on. If no one can hook on the track then you may run a better time with traction control on.

To run fast 1/4 mile times the car must hook up. I would say take air out of the tires and do a longer burnout first. If you have tried this and you are still smoking tires when the light goes green, launch at a lower rpm. if the tires are breaking loose down track, or you bog from launching at such low rpm and then the tires break loose when you get into the power band, then I would go back to traction control. You can turn it off to burn out and then put it back on when you get to the tree. I had to have PTM 3 to make any significant difference at my power level. I still think you should be able to hook with those M&H drag radials if you heat them with a good burnout.
