But the small block architecture is already smaller than just about any other production V8 out there, if not all of them. And while it could be made smaller, by using a smaller block then maxing out the available bore & stroke you end up causing other issues -notably with cooling & block strength. Those issues are made all the worse when you add forced induction & crank up the heat and stress. Topping it all off, the air coming from a turbocharger is hotter than it would be if it came from a supercharger.

So while your engine would certainly be different, I can't see how it would be better.

Well there is many posts on this on the Corvette site, one shop is working on a Z06 and running through it trying to diagnose what the OEM tune is doing and why it is pulling timing.

The car wasn't hot-lapped by one magazine after another like a $3 whore, that's what I meant.

Even media day events the cars are allowed to cool down between runs to avoid heat-soak and overheating issues.

If it turns out it has a serious issue, then oh well, plenty of others great cars to choose from out there. Hopefully its not as serious as it potentially may be. I mean this thing was running laps at the ring, how they could not have run into this problem while there I don't know, or they did and don't care which seems implausible, but who knows. Time will tell.

That's what I'm curious about too.

It looks like it's the stock ECU tune:

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/20...tup-89790.html

Want full power for your entire lap time? Tune it and blow your warranty to bits.

Father GM has cut the nuts on the Z06

My question would be because of emission's? that is the way it sounds to me. Warranty void if you want to play I guess.

If this is true I'm extremely dissapointed by gm.

I'm not sure what would be more disappointing, the LT4 heat soaking after a couple of pulls on the freeway or GM having so little faith in the engine that they tune it to pull timing and kill power.

I stayed with him for 2 laps before I misjudged a turn. That Viper is sweet.

It does suck that the new Z06 is slower than the Viper but I guess you get what you pay for in this situation. The Z06 is cheaper in any comparable configuration vs the Viper even after Dodge cut it's asking price by $15k. Whether or not a $5k-$15k price difference between the 2 matters that much to people who have the money for these kind of cars is not for me to judge. Regardless I know which car will sell more. Just having a auto option alone in the Z06 will ensure it kills the Viper in sales.

I think one reason that GM might have held back the Z06 is so they could offer a ZR1. They might put a new hood and TVS 2.3 on a Z06/Z07 and call it a ZR1.

Another thing that would suck is it seems GM is forcing those who want to track their cars void their warranty. Same thing happened with the C6 Z06. With that car you needed head/valve train work to make sure it was reliable.

Lol I remember that mostly everyone was saying that the Z was going to be a beast and that the Viper was on its way out. Don't get me wrong, the car is still bad ass, but it really seems like its not the super car many thought it was.
