I too have Geico. Switched just after Hurricane Katrina. Had Progressive. I was told I should have moved my car.

Never had to file a claim with Geico but that may be changing when I have my Camaro fixed.

I also have been using Gieco for the past 6 years and have had no problems. I haven't had to file a claim but, they had my back when someone else hit me. I think with all insurance companies their will be horror stories. It's nature of the beast.

As a pro-caveman activist, I am vehemently opposed to Geico's racist portrayal of cavemen.

Geico and Progressive are the two worst companies.

Progressive is bad all around and would avoid them like the plague. They won't fix the owners vehicles, won't fix other peoples cars, won't pay repair shops the select few occasions in which they agree to fix the car, etc.

Geico is decent to it's insurance holders but pray you never get into an accident with someone who has Geico. When it comes to getting non-insurers cars fixed they are just as bad as Progressive, they won't pay the repair bills or hospital bills even if they was at fault.

Are you saying that doing business with Geico is not so easy a caveman could do it? Prepare for a class-action lawsuit!

I can give you two Geico 'horror' stories...

I'm fixing to drop Geico. A shame really, as I've had them for over a decade. In February, I had 3 tickets on my record (2 speeding, 1 illegal passing). 1 of those speeding tickets dropped off my record in June. The policy comes due August 22. And yet, they raised my rates 10%. No accidents...and fewer tickets. How? I call them up, and they bumped me down a driver risk level. I went from their top, "safest" tier, to their second tier. They claimed it was because they screwed up billing the previous period, and should have charged a premium for the three tickets. Now that there are only two, this was how they could 'fix' thier error. I may have been ammicable to a message saying there was a mistake when the policy was renewed in February, but to charge me for items that are no longer relevant is ludicris. Warned them that I would not renew unless they charged the valid rate for the NEXT six month period, and they refused to alter it appropriately. Ergo, they will be replaced.

More severe story befell my folks. They've used Geico for a couple of decades. My mother's car was damaged by a girl chatting away on a cell phone, also a Geico customer. My folks took it to a nearby shop and had it fixed. Afterwards, Geico refused to pay for the repairs, because the shop was not in their "approved service center list." The last thing anyone wants to deal with after an accident is red tape on which shop you can use.

At any rate (no pun intended), best thing you can do is shop around. While I have the afore mentioned stories with Geico, Progressive was also a pain to deal with when I was T-bar'd on my motorcycle by a woman who plowed through a stopsign whilest speeding. Go with the company that offers the best rate. Insurance works by collecting as much as possible, and paying out as little as possible. If there can be a question of who is responsible for $$, you're likely to get stuck in the middle while the parties duke it out.

If you have an accident, just get everything in writing before its done. I believe it varies by state, but in VA we have an insurance commisioner's office. Its purpose is essentially to keep the insurance companies honest and paying when the should be paying. If you have an accident, just keep receipts, get everything in writing, and have the insurance adjusters view the work prior to it being done.

I have state farm on all my vehicles and properties. They are an excellent company to deal with when you have a claim. I got t-boned in a parking lot in my truck a month after i got it. State farm had the adjuster there the next day and the truck went in to the shop the day after that. (Any shop i wanted) The downside is that they send you the check, so you have to pay the shop directly yourself. (I think if you have a major claim, they will send to the shop)

I've had geico for several years now with no problems at all. Now to be honest I haven't had a claim either, so I don't know that I am the one to really help here , but no problems .....

When we called for quote on our cars years ago they were $600 a year over what we are paying now.

Maybe they could do a better job paying their claims and have cheaper rates if they didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every day advertising on every channel there is. If I had a dollar for every assinine commercial of theirs I've seen I could quit my job. Sorry but I just don't trust any company that has to advertise that much, a good quality product sells itself.

Dude, just switched to Geico. I have two cars I'm insuring including my 2010 Camaro SS. My other insurance company sent me a bill for $1750/year for both cars. I switched to geico with max coverages and I now pay $689/year...True story! I have an excellent driving record and both titles are free and clear...I don't know if that makes the difference. The had been with the previous company for 12 years...
