My car has been at the dealer for over two weeks now for some simple repairs, but they're extremely busy so it's... somewhat understandable.
Since it's there I've been dying to put stuff on the car so I figured while it's there I'd ask how much they'd charge to put some of my own parts on so that it'll all be done when I get the car back. I only asked for a price on putting my coilovers on and I'd do the adjustments and alignment... Customer supplied parts of course

First of all they took 3 days to call me back with a price and never answer the phone when transferred to service. When I did get a call back, they quoted me $1400-$1600.
For labor only...

The labor time only calls for 2.5 hours for fronts and 2.4 hours for rears... Even if you add an hour for alignment and another hour for adjustments, which I told them not to bother with, then how the hell do you get $1600 out of 7 hours? That's nearly $230 an hour? And since it was actually only 4.9... that's $326.53 per hour!

Has anyone brought their own coilovers to be installed at a dealer and gotten something similar? That's just ridiculous

Typical sign that they don't want to work on the car. Most likely related to fact the parts were not bought through/from them. Instead of simply saying "we don't install customer purchased parts", and often then playing 50 questions, it's easier to just give an obnoxious quote.

I'm sure you can find numerous other places to have them installed, and several of those likely won't install customer provided parts either.

It's a liability issue.
