key Recall
For this recall are they just replacing the key or the ignition switch and Key? Have any of you gone in for it? Do you feel it's necessary/recommend it. Will not getting it done affect my warranty in any way? I have noting attached to my key and I have to try really hard to hit it with my knee. I just don't like the key and separate fob.

There are a few topics on here with pictures of before and after the key recall. Just use the search button to find them.
I'm personally not doing it as I like the original key fob from GM. Some dealers may force you to do the recall if you need any warranty work done on your call though. Just fyi...

They just take the key out of the fob and then hook them together. Several people has gotten them done. Personally, I don't see that it's necessary, but to each their own.

With the switchblade key, the fob extends out away from the column with the key inserted and some folks (have no idea how you would do this) would hit the fob with their right knee when driving and turn the car off. So GM thought it should recall all the switchblade type keys. I never bothered with it as my right knee never comes near the fob.

I declined mine. They recalled it because there is a possibility you can hit the key with your knee while driving. I'm 6'4" and there is no way my knees would hit the key. I asked if I could decline it and they said yes. I like the switchblade.

I had to sign a waiver saying I declined the key recall.
So I did. As was said, no way my knee or any part of me is going to contact the key in the ignition. |

I tried it and I could switch the car off with my knee. But I don't see it happening by accident.

I love the new keys. Could not stand that blade. Now it has a more old school feel to it, when you start it. And yes, I am tall and yes my knee hit the blade a lot. And yes I track my ZL1, so it was a concern.
Now, all better.

I'm holding out for Push Button Start - Corvettes have it, someone is bound to
do a mod with GM parts.... I hope. I have a Challenger with Keyless entry and push button start - I sometimes find myself trying to open my Zed the same way, and I'm confused when I don't hear the familiar 'snick' of the lock, then I realize I gotta fish the key outta my pocket... sigh! |
