COLD AND TIRES
It was 41 degrees this morning her in Phoenix . These tires sure don't like the cold weather and a heavy foot .

I wouldn't call 41 cold ,but it was enough to make the tires not behave . I would not attempt to drive these tires below freezing ,and most certainly not in a freezing rain . Amd I do know what cold is ,I lived in north Jersey for many years and spent a winter in Buffalo NY .

That's why these are labeled as Summer Tires. There meant to be ran in warm tempatures. Knowing this, when the temps are below 40 out or its raining, my car stays parked in the garage.

I have driven mine in the upper 30's a couple times and it did fine. Just have to be cautious when cornering and go easy on the gas. My history with bulit trucks have taught me to be careful in cold or wet conditions anyways. I drive my 1LE on blacktop about 75% of the time which makes it even worse on acceleration traction.
Last weekend I tried a little experiment on at what point the tires break loose at a roll (after reading a story on that beast Hellcat). Anyways, in 2nd gear crusing at 50mph, traction control off and stability track on. Temps at about 55F on blacktop on a deserted highway. So I nailed it. My car just boiled the tires and keep spinning until shifting at about 75mph at which point I let off. I actually didn't think it would be that impressive at that speed. Typically I pass someone in 3rd or 4th on a highway like that and have had little traction issues. I knew 2nd would be quicker, but I don't think that much power is needed for a casual pass at 50-55mph. Obviously with 2nd gear being in its powerband at that speed made the big difference. So that little experiment taught me that temps even below 60F we have to be careful.Generally the way I do it is anytime the temps are below 60F I drive very careful at any speed over 35mph. I might play a tiny bit on a take off etc, but shut it down quickly. At any temps below 35F, I intend to keep the car garaged. Being a "fun" weekend car, so far 38F is the coldest Saturday or Sunday my car has seen. I dread these coming January weekends knowing at least couple below freezing nights will keep my baby garaged :(

I seemed to have a lot more wheel hop with colder temps, so I'm very careful on takeoff. So, I just installed some BMR trailing arms and that alone helped on that. I'm very aware of what to expect from these tires, thanks to the people on this forum!
