Was not too happy when I came home
I was not too happy when I got home,my 16 year old son got a speeding ticket this afternoon.I walked in and knew something was not right with him. Finally he handed me the ticket.I am one stubborn Irish lady and told him that he is going to learn his lesson,I am not going to pay for the ticket which he is going to.I seen the fine,$125.00.I took the car keys from him and will think about giving the car keys back to him this weekend. He goes to court next week at 3:30 on this.He does work having a job.The car,a 2004 Chevy Malibu is in my name and hopefully the insurance does not go up.

Don't be too hard on him. My son got one when he was 19 years old 97 in a 70. Fine was $227 which I made him pay and he also had to take a drivers ed course to keep it off his MVR.

Prayer for judgement there? Here in NC you can get first offense excused. Or at least could 13 years ago..

It was a 70 in a 55 and gave the keys back telling him to take it easy on the gas pedal.Has the bad case of lead foot a lot.He is on a graduated driving system in Michigan.

I definitely think making him pay for it will teach him not to want to do that again.

At least here in Florida, you can take a class for your first ticket to ensure that no points get added to your license. Luckily I haven't gotten any sort of ticket in the past 6 years that I have been driving.

Definitely make him pay ticket.! It's ok to make a mistake..... The true test is if he will learn from it? Hopefully he does! Good luck!

Actually if the offense isn't too serious you're allowed 3 classes within a 5 year period. Unless you have a CDL then all bets are off.

My first (and only...Knock on wood) ticket came two weeks before my 17th bday. ... back in 1990. I had to pay for it too

When I was 16 I got a speeding ticket and the cop made me pop open and spill the remainder of my 6 pack beer. My point is he made a mistake and hasn't done anything worse...no wrecks and is fine....go easy but let him learn his lesson.

I received a ticket one evening while out on a date (with the girl who would later become my wife.) I was barely speeding and it was an accident on my part; just careless. I knew I was going to get hell from my mother when I got home so I was dreading it. When I finally walked in my father said, "You got a ticket tonight?" I was shocked. How did he know? "He got me a few minutes after he got you and he told me about it." We didn't exactly LAUGH about it but it did soften the blow...

I got 2 speeding tickets within 4 months of getting my automobile drivers license at age 16. I had been riding a motorcycle with a license since age 14 - NO tickets.
Driving a 1969 SS Camaro was the incentive for my speeding tickets. The judge MADE me appear in court (with at least one parent) and put fear of Biblical proportions in me. I turn 60 in 2 months and have not had a speeding citation since age 16. Boys will be boys...at least he didn't have a bag of pot on his person. He'll be just fine.

I got my first speeding ticket 5 minutes after getting my license, with my mother in the car..
16 years old, was at the DMV, took my test, got my license, pulled out of the drive went maybe 1/2 mile and was pulled over. claimed 45 in a 35.. my mom was sitting right next to me, as she had taken me to the DMV to take my test.. She ripped that cop a new one because she knew damn well I wasn't speeding and he was sitting in wait for a young kid to pull out of the DMV and nail them.. She then went to court with me and ripped the cop again, and ripped up the judge.. Ticket was dismissed, and Judge laid into the cop, was a rather funny sight to see. Moral of the story: Don't ever piss off a Sicilian Mother/Grandmother..
