Aftermarket Wheel Thread
Ok, I think we should have an official aftermarket wheel thread for the Z/28 given the lack of options for the car. Obviously, the stock forged rims are the ultimate in strength and safety for track work but others may want another look or a less expensive option for street tires.
Let's get a thread going, preferably with confirmed fit to the car. If possible specify brand, size, offset, wheel weight, and rough price. This will be useful to all and could be a sticky going forward. Thanks in advance. |

There have been a few members with aftermarket racing wheels from Finspeed, have not seen anyone post about other aftermarket wheels. I understand the need for a thread like this I just not sure we have got that far with the Z yet with street oriented wheel choices. I suspect people who will race the car go with a second set of OEM or forged aftermarket wheels and keep the OEM for street duty.

I think the default option for those of us tracking the car is to put street tires on the OEM wheels and run track tires (Trofeos, slicks, etc) on track wheels (Finspeed, another set of OEM's, etc). Your track wheels will get buggered up eventually from track debris getting between the calipers and wheel. Keep the OEM's looking great with street tires.

Ok,
1) where is the best place to buy a second set of OEM rims and how much are folks paying for them? 2) What's the best way to fit a track set in the car with tires mounted? TIA. |

I do have the OEM Z/28 wheels for track use, and I have 19x10.5 ET22 APEX ARC-8 wheels that I use all around for street use. These wheels are spin forged, and are very popular in BMW community as track wheels. I used them at the track as well with Hankook RS3s (my street tires), and they worked with no issues.

Are the clearances different on a 1ss vs Z/28? That is, will these same wheels work on a Z/28 and are you using the stock 305 tire sizes?

Judging from offsets, compared to Z/28 OEM wheels, the fronts are tucked in more by 18mm, whereas rears are tucked in more by 8mm. I did not install the fender flares yet, but even without them, fronts are almost flush, while rears stick out. With the flares, I suppose rears would be close to flush, a little bit tucked in, while fronts are tucked in quite a bit.

BTW, CCW is now owned by Weld Racing. John sold the company earlier this year. |
