I have a 2013 ss and a manual was required when I ordered it. It is not on the market but I am tossing around building a kit car and would be selling if it was right.

IDK, but when I was looking and I found out that they wanted $1195 MORE for the auto and I got 26hp LESS and my big burley 6.2L V8 turned into a 3.1L V4 on the highway that sounded like a sick Honda with a fart can on it, my decision became easy.

This is why I got the manual too. I knew autos were better overall in the 1/4 from my Mopar days with their 727, but my gut told me mods with AFM would be more expensive and as usual my gut was right.

The other thing is the 3.27 gear with the auto, although the 6l80e does have an extremely low first gear.

Nonetheless, most people prefer auto these days. Modern automatics go 200k+ without complaining, but they still have not figure out how to make a clutch last that long. Plus, it's harder for folks to text while driving if they have a stick.

Because women drive them too now.
I'm kidding.

If you're using your car at the drag strip, or if you sit in bad traffic every day, or if you have some sort of injury that keeps you from being able to drive a stick, then an auto is just fine.

But I bought my car to drive, and an auto will NEVER be more enjoyable to drive than a manual. Period.

I had the same problem you did when I bought mine. I told them if it's an auto, don't even tell me about it because I won't buy it.

Because it's a new millennium. Why is it hard to find an ice pick, or an incandescent light bulb, or a two iron, or a.... well, you get the point. As pickwithaustin said: supply and demand. Many more drivers want automatics over manuals, so that's what GM provides.

Oh yeah - and one other reason: Automatics are faster

I would love to have a standard, but with my age (58), and having had 7 surgeries between the 2 knees, Doc says its really likely I will need replacements so we went with an auto. The wife would love a standard too.

I had the hardest time looking for one as well. I told the dealers not to even bother with autos (as far as I was concerned), because I really wanted the M6. I ended up settling for the Victory Red color, because that was all I could find with a M6 that actually caught my eye. I was originally in the market for a black Camaro, but I settled and have been happy with my decision.

Small, but effective mod list:

Roto-Fab Intake, TSP 2" Long tubes, TSP catless mids, MSD spark plug wires, stock catback, Elite Catch Can, APEX washer relocation and scoop, VMAX throttle body, Diablo InTune-Tuned by Matt@FSP, and a JacFab license plate bracket.

Currently there are 939 manual transmission SS's available on Autotrader.

I never bought a car from another state...I like to test drive and inspect the car before I buy it.

The automatic transmission may last that long, but the L99 in front of it wont, unless it's AFM is disabled. I've never seen an AFM engine go past a 100k without sucking oil.
