wideband and tuning
Is one required for tuning? I see companies offering mail order tunes and the customer just logs the car. Does this logging require a wideband? I ask because when I tuned my last car I didn't have to buy one. I believe the car had one from the factory. It was a turbo car. I want to tune my camaro but don't know if the wideband is required 100% to get a decent tune.
Thanks for the help

a wideband helps to dial in the fuel trims more percise than using the infomation off the handheld or tuning software.

You will need a AFR wideband gauge with a 0-5v analog output to log AFR. Your remote tuner will need that PID to tune for you. If your Runing FI you will also want the gauge to monitor AFR when under boost.

Thanks. Makes sense. I just haven't read that anyone purchased one for remote tuning. So, I have to purchase the wideband and pay for the tune and buy the HP tuners software? Think I'll just tune myself if I have to purchase everything required to do so.

You don't have to have a wideband for remote tuning, but it's never a bad idea to have one. If you don't have a wideband, they will use fuel trims from the narrowband sensors to correct fueling.

I have near perfect calibrations for all the major brand parts and combination having done over 2500 Gen5 Camaros. When you get in to cams, Forced induction, or off brand parts I will require a Wide band O2 gauge to be logged using the SCT handheld also used for custom remote tuning. The SCT X4 can log up to 4 analog inputs, reads and clears codes, stores your factory tune file, can store up to 10 custom tunes, and is a very powerful datalogger. Feel free to Call, Email PM me for more info. Ted.

What is the range of the narrow band sensors vs the wideband?

Narrow bands are only accurate at Stoich 14.7:1 above and below who knows.
Wide bands are accurate from 8.0:1 to 20.0:1.

I know this is a few days old, and as stated you don't "need" to have a wideband to tune basic bolt-ons. If you want to tune your car, and learn how to do it at the same time, then I would recommend you do just that. Get a innovate, or AEM Wideband gauge, plug it into the extra O2 bung that some headers have (some not all.....you can always use the factory rear O2 sensor location) and purchase HPTtuners (get pro not standard) and have at it! Thats a great way to learn. If you get to a point where you cant go any further and are scratching your head, then bring in one of the well known and respected tuners here on C5 or wherever you chose to get them from, and have them "remote" tune your car for you, most of them should welcome the addition. After your done having, either you or someone else, tune your car, you can sel the wideband here on C5 forums for a great price and recoup some of your money back. Hey that's what I did.....I learned a TON of things and got a killer tune in return!

Killer thanks again. I never thought about picking up and selling the wideband.
