Renting Pickup truck for move.....
I'm at a dilemma right now and could use some help. I'm moving from Fort Lewis, WA to Fort Hood, TX. I have about a bedrooms worth of stuff, minus the bed. I'm looking to rent a 2500 truck (preferably diesel) to drive down there one way so I can haul my car. A trailer is 300 dollars for rental which is no biggie. My issue is I can't find the truck. Uhaul has a 14' box truck/trailer deal for 1400. If you all know of anyone/any businesses that would be cheaper please let me know. Enterprise and hertz all have to be returned to same location. Thanks

Are you not being reimbursed the cost? You have to be since it is a DITY move. Rent the Uhaul and trailer. I did a similar move from McChord to McGuire afb. Safe driving this time of year!

Penske, doesn't support the weight of our vehicles with their trailers, unfortunately. Thank you though.
Z, They reimburse 90-95% of what it would cost them, therefore I have to undercut them. With me being single, and only having 1,000-1,500 lbs I don't know that I can find something cheaper. I literally need a 2500 pickup to rent to make it cheaper. Thank you for your input! |

Call uhaul, Penske, and Budget, get the best price and then call uhaul and have them price match. They have about the most fuel efficient trucks, but the main thing that is nice is the lower deck height to get in and out of. They will price match and then you get the better truck. If you want to go with a different company I've seen Budget trucks towing uhaul trailers so you can mix and match.

Don't worry about getting a diesel. A gasser will do the job just fine, and will be easier to find

What he said. You could possibly get away with uhauls f150 but I'm not sure about their towing capacity. Getting a 14 foot uhaul will prolly cost similar in gas as a small diesel pickup.
