This is the correct approach in my opinion. We pushed our '69 and as we ran into problems withe the stock components, we replaced them with aftermarket and went on. We were long out of warranty when this all went on, but I almost think warranty has nothing to do with it. We have no choice but to keep the warranty valid and hold off on track use of this car until it is paid for and a new daily driver can be bought. When it is, I am sure there will be a list of stock parts that will need to go. The 1LE's give you a great head start on a competitive track car, but by no means is it all the way there.

The fact of the matter is the whole clutch design is suspect , flawed and poorly designed from the master cylinder ,slave, hose's, and single reservoir for clutch and brakes. They take a great trans in a great car and mate it to a junk clutch system to save a few $$$ bucks. It is truly sad that to save $40.00 or $50.00 a unit ,they screwed the pooch. What GM did to the clutch system in the SS is like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa . Looks like the bean counters win again .

Perhaps GM is like the Beavers dad ,http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...83640239,d.cGU

Did I miss the part if you tried using synthetic oil for the tranny? I did the clutch reservoir and synthetic fluid mod and it was day n night; went from harsh shifting on the street to butter shifts! If tracking the car, I'd go with the ideal garage master and bigger clutch line. I'm convinced you wont have a problem after. I even think about doing it even if I dont track my car. Great mod and cheap to do. Cheaper than your lawyer and less stress on your mind.

LESSON OF TODAY; NEVER GO TO THE DEALER WITH TIRE RUBBER STUCK IN YOUR WHEELS/ WHEEL WELL

But theirs is bigger than yours. So good luck with your threats over what, $1500? The GEN 7 will be out before you settle anything. Advertising something as "track ready" and warranting the car if you do competitive driving with it are two separate things.

Your letter came from GM? Then I wouldn't bother much about another dealer, you're now likely blackballed in the warranty system.

You get a new OEM clutch...and then where will you be in another 75 laps? Guaranteed you won't be getting a new clutch even if you do convince them to give you one now.

Why not suck it up and go aftermarket and leave all that garbage behind?
JMO. Good luck.

I have never even heard of anyone that builds a track car for a customer then gives the customer a free clutch when they burn it completely up at a track....

a 38hot thread. I agree with kaboom about beating the piss out of your car then whining but I'd probably feel different if my clutch took a crap at 11k.
on the other hand I'm surprised GM even covers the clutch since it is clearly a wear n tear item. I had looked at Challengers and for some reason came across warranty info for them and they specifically exclude the clutch. My first car was a LT-1 corvette ( 1971 ) with the muncie M22 rock crusher 4 spd and 3.70 gear. never had a problem. my 5.0 mustang convertible was also a stick and I never had a clutch problem BUT WHEN I GAVE IT TO MY COUSIN ( clutch dragger ) she ruined it in less than a year. It's still parked at her house, covered. As far as fighting GM I learned long ago when a dealer had my corvette for six f-ing months and couldn't get the repairs done that I went to the dealerships owner and HE suggested litigation before I did. So F that. Hey, contact Mary Barra direct. She's a big Camaro enthusiast. I always stir shit from the top down. F that chain of command crap. That never works. Best of luck...

I dont think it's the clutch, those that haven't read this thread, there's a lot of info here
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384247 and it's not pointing to the clutch.

Guess he had rubber stuck to the inside of the wheels. Moral of that story,.. make sure your sh!ts clean before you go in for services. It is BS though, that the OP gets blackballed on all warranty issues because the dealer dicked him by claiming abuse from rubber on the wheels. It sucks that we have lame clutches, but I also understand that were hard on them. I will problably just suck up any issues I have with mine, and replace with aftermarket, obviously the stock crap aint cutting it so why reinstall it. Best bet would be to see if the dealer will cover the R&R of the new items on the warranty ticket.

Thank you for pointing this out. Sure, it sucks that the car has a known problem. Every car has known problems. If the company is expected to pay for all of them every time a car has one regardless of usage, you won't be able to afford one.

The problem is, had you read the warranty paperwork (specifically page 10) it says point blank that the warranty does not cover damage caused as a result of "misuse of the vehicle such as driving over curbs, overloading, racing, or other competition."

You chose to ignore their warranty stipulations, you chose to forfeit your warranty.

Open and shut.
