Parking in single car garage, any issues?
I've got a a single car garage and I'm wondering if anyone is having difficulties parking their 5th gens in them.
It's probably a stupid question but, my previous car was a Honda Prelude (let the flaming begin ) and it felt quite wide for the garage... I've checked the specs and the Camaro is 6 inches wider!I've got a work bench and a shelving unit on the left wall, so I'm thinking I may have to move everything to the back wall to accomodate the car. Anyone experience any problems with this? |

I have a 2 car garage so no problems.....but make sure when you open the door, if it's close to the wall, be very careful. When getting out of the car, the first door stop hardly leaves enough room to exit. When you push the door open a little more, the door will kind of fly away from you and you'll ding your door edge on the wall.

I have a 2 car garage and I have been getting out of the car to make sure the rear bumper clears the garage door before I shut it down. I will hang a tennis ball from the ceiling as a distance guide this weekend. Ball hits the windshield, car is on the right spot!

Put some padding on the wall(s) where you'll be opening doors, and use a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling to touch your windshield when you should stop

But this car is bigger. You have to plan for it!

its pathetic, I know, but I went to the Wiki page, pulled the dimensions and chalklined my single car garage to make sure i fit- I'll clear the garage rails by about 4" per side...that's gonna be one tight fit! length, I'll have to clear some 5 gal paint drums & the cornhole boards will have to move, but she's gonna fit. I'm determined!

A single car garage door opening is a nominal 8' wide (96" less trim, hardware, etc.).
The garage itself should be a nominal 10' wide, so it will go in. The problem will be since it's a two-door car, the doors are wider and could possibly hit the walls, (or anything against the walls), when you open the doors. Pull your car in, open each door slowly, note where the edge of the doors open to, and then clear or protect that spot.

Ditto on the warning about the doors opening. HANG ON TO THE DOOR when opening it, as the second notch is much farther than the first so it's deceptive. The door is long and wants to swing very wide on that second notch, and it practically throws itself towards that second notch. When I say hang on, I mean control the opening by holding the door handle; don't let the door open itself or you'll hit something next to you for sure.

from most images and from pulling them into AutoCad and 3Dmax, the mirrors, for the most part still fall within the width of the rear "hips".

I wish they would have allowed the door to open about 6 more inches on the first notch.

LOL we are getting estimates to have a 2nd garage built esp since the corvette had to give up its garage space. The Camaro definately takes up more room!
