It is unfortunate, but that is how these cars are judged. Most cannot relate to road racing.
I didn't know the Z06 was a muscle car.

The ZL1 was designed for the strip, track and street. Times have changed. Automatics faster than manuals, paddle shifters, etc. It's not just the US anymore either, they are also competing with Europe. Why did Ford come out with the GT350? To compete with the Z28. Times have changed. Is the Z28 a 1/4 mile car, street car or track car?

The Z/28 is all three in my eyes with some changes, but obviously not to most. I would personally like to have one of them instead of a ZL1 and make it a street/strip car, but I cannot swing 75k. I do not need touch screens and what not, hence that is why I wanted/purchased a '12. It is unfortunate that we have to compete with Europe...the Mustang looks like a Fusion. In my opinion it lost its muscle appearance.

The Z28 is not recommended for the 1/4 mile because the rear end wasn't designed for multiple hard launches like the ZL1. A/C and radio are options with 1 speaker and driving around town wouldn't be too comfortable. Now the ZL1 was designed for all three. Back in the 60s many of the "muscle cars" were also designed for the track. I think it's great we have so many choices, I chose the ZL1 because it does everything great. I can drive it to the strip and run the 1/4 and drive it home and the next day take it to the track and run it or have fun through the twisties!

That is why there is company's like Strange and Moser Engineering or just put a rear from a ZL1 in it. You were not into F-body's I am guessing? Those rears were not the best for drag racing either to say the least, and look at them cars. Great performers.

Would you buy a rake and then buy a shovel head and swap it on the rake so you had a shovel?

Is your ZL1 stock besides appearance mods, and if it is do you plan on modifying it?

If it was just about going straight, they wouldn't have comparos, they would drag race and go home. They did have AAR Cuda, Camaro Z/28, Mustang GT and Javeline AMX racing against each other in a whole series, right ? ... S.C.C.A.. It was about the complete car or factories would not have competed

I was an SCCA Solo II guy so I look at entire cars. ZL1 "told the Boss to shove it" because it beat Mustang Laguna Seca at a track. That's how it came out.

In the December 2014 Road and Track Performance Car of the Year competion, Camaro Z/28 turned a 54.66. Hellcat turned a 56.37. In 2013, the Camaro ZL1 turned a 55.86 and the Shelby 500GT turned a 56.19. The Shelby can't go more lapse because the stock 4 piston Brembos will fade and you will off course or wreck. They are great for straight lines or street racing but not a track. That was at the Motown Mile outside Detroit. If you want to drive something faster than the Z/28 bring over 130K. Bang for buck Camaros are AWESOME.

If you look at the top 101 fastest cars in Nurburgring, the current Shelby is not on that list. Camaro Z/28 is 38, the ZL1 is 47, and the CTS-V is 97. Ford... the GT is at 75, and Shelby of any kind is nowhere to be found. The new one would coast off into the woods with those brakes.

Which Magazine specifically did you read where they compared the ZL1 and the Shelby, and the ZL1 was rated higher?

Tell him you bought what you like, not what he likes, and be done with it.

Your Mustang buddy had to drive your new car home for you. He's always going to feel a step ahead regardless of what each of you drive.

Search this forum. Tons of info about the ZL1 and pony car debates ad nauseum. Ford and Chevy constantly trade up who's "in the lead". Very subjective at times. Each car is as fast and the wallet allows it to be.
