it very well may be warped rotors -

It's important to let your brakes cool by taking a "cooldown" lap -- meaning - if you've been running hard and hitting the brakes - -slow down before you park - let them cool down by driving a bit slower and coming to gradual stops....and then park it.

We did get complaints about 4th gen cars -- but frankly? I've yet to warp a rotor on any 4th gen I drove........and that's because I paid attention to cooling them down --

I know the 5th gen Corvettes are sensitive to lug nut torque. If they are all tightened down to spec at one time, it may warp a rotor. It may not apply to the Camaro, but I think the Vette torque sequence it to tighten to 50% then torque to 100%. Most shops aren't aware of the sequence.

The specs are 80 ft lbs on my Honda, and I have gotten it back from the tire shop with them over 160 sometimes, and I have to break out my impact wrench to get the nuts off. It pays to tell anyone working on your car what the specs are and have them use a torque wrench rather than relying on the feel of the impact wrench. It has been my experience that once a rotor warps, it will warp easier the next time. I replace them rather than having them turned.

You are probably breaking too hard. Get some drilled and slotted rotors.

For two years straight my daughter would come home from college and have warped rotors from making hard stops on her Saturn. The third time I made her pay for them and they've been fine ever since.

The variable in all this is driving habits...............that have to change.

Considering all the responses with the braking I have been receiving, I'd thought I'd say this:

Alright I know this may be hard to believe, but I really don't drive my car hard too often and rarely brake HARD.

My guess would have to be that the problem is with the torque of the lug nuts, because I just had my wheels and tires changed out at a tire shop. I will go back and ask what pound they torqued it to. And get it changed if necessary.

I will update later today...

Good luck man, I would venture to say you'd feel it while driving too if it were an issue with lug nut torque. The symptoms you're describing are almost certainly warped rotors.

I do find this frequently happens when trailering the R.V.

I have had this happen a few times now on my all wheel drive Chevy Astro...I was told after the fact by a mechanically inclined friend that if I get the "lifetime" free replacement pads vs regular; the composite material in the lifetime pads is much harder on the rotors.

Then I end up replacing the rotors all the time which are more money and time....Seem like it makes sense, anyone have any thoughts on the "free lifetime pads" idea.

Camaro brakes seem excellent so far though

Update:

I went into the tire shop and got all the lugs checked. They are all torqued properly to 140 lb.

Soo... If I don't brake hard and I have properly torqued wheels, then the only thing left that could be the cause is user (my) error with hot rotors and water. But I don't wash my car after I use it.

However, now that I think about it, I did wash off my wheels and painted calipers last weekend in the hot sun.... could this have been the reason why the rotors are warping?

Does Ferris Bueller live in your neighborhood? Anybody check to see if you can roll back the mileage in reverse?

Honestly though, has anyone else driven your car without you being in it? I have neverrrrrrrrrrrr everrrrrrrrrr heard of someone attributing warp rotors to washing a car.

I have a 2014 SS, only 15k miles...... When I brake at speeds over 40mph the car shakes!

I never had this problem with my 2011 Kia Optima, but with my 2006 Pontiac G6 I had the rotors cut every 6 months!

I drive like a grandpa & brake slowly/gradually.

So has anyone else dealt with this at only 15k miles??

Well, a lot of people drive in the rain and their rotors don't warp. If washing your car could cause it, then you'd see millions of cars with warped rotors after every sudden downpour. Not saying a direct shot of cold water on steaming hot brakes is a good idea... just saying this theory is unlikely.
