20% off Msrp a regualr thing?

That 20% Off promo that just happened is that a annual thing? or was that the first time something like that available? Did it work on 2015 cars?

its was only on a few car models.

dealers got a list from chevy what was on the list. now if the only had 15's on their lot then yes the oldest would have been on the list.

keep in mind that depending on the model sometimes you can get that kind of pricing or better anytime. ex my 1ls stickered for like 24 or so i paid about 20k some people on here have even paid 19 or so

Without sounding obvious, I think a lot of the price you haggle for and end up with has a lot to do with how bad the dealer wants to make a sale. If you make them an offer and don't like their counter-offer then you walk. I will wait them out. Make them blink first.

My thinking is that if they can offer 20% off MSRP in December they have the wiggle room to give you that (or close to it) in February or March or whenever. They can cry poor but I don't believe that BS. It's just part of the game.

Getting a new car is great once you go through the buying process that sometimes can be a real pain.

To some extent, you are correct. A dealer can dip into hold back to move a car.
In the case of the recent 20% sale, GM actually rebated the dealer the 20%. It was truly unique and as far as I know, unprecedented. The only down side is that the "rebate" was subject to sales tax.
The man always reaches deep in our pockets!

the 20% deal that ended on the second hasnt been done for about 15 years. Hopefully it continues every year. GM gave a list to us with certain models, but we chose which cars were put on that list. Yes 14's and 15's were part of the list. We even had the z/28 on there with a $16k rebate.

Discounts were only limited to models which were: Cruze, Camaro, Sonic, Impala, Double Cab Silverado. I dont think im missing any.

Rebates are not subject to sales tax in Texas! So I picked up a ~37500 car for ~28100 + 1882 TTL in Texas. Crazy great deal IMHO.

First dealer I went to said they don't haggle period. I offered them sticker price and they still said no because I didn't meet certain requirements for their "special price" of about $22k for a 1LS. I ended up getting the car for 19,750 or so + tax at another dealership. This was also a non-negotiable but considering they didn't want more than sticker price I wasn't really concerned with lowering the price... Besides, I had $1500 worth of GM rewards

I honestly thought the first dealership would call me back with an offer but never did. I saw the same 1LS a few weeks ago there

This was during memorial day weekend sales in 2013

So even though GM advertised this as the "oldest 15%" of these models, the fact is that you dealers got to select which 15% of your inventory that you wanted for the 20% MSRP rebate ?

I don't think that you will see the 20% deal again for a very long time. The 20% does not reflect the wiggle room that a dealer has in a car. The expense of the program went back to GM not the dealer.

It was 20% off oldest camaro on the lot (and other specific gm models). Dealer sales guy said it was the first time hes ever seen anything like it in 15 years. Could have been a 15 ss or a 14 saleen just whatever the oldest camaro was.

Also just cause it was 20% off doesnt mean the dealers gave it all. Had some try to only give 10 or 15% of it, then had one do 20% + usaa + military + alfa + etc..

For the buyer you had all the power imo. One, its an incredible discount that even more could be taken off of and two you knew the car had sat forever, they needed it sold (if it wasnt gonna sell at 20% off it wasnt gonna sell at retail). You could haggle like crazy on them.
