My concern was specialty tools other than a dial indicator. every mustang I have done reused the same pinion shim slap it in check backlash and pattern throw cover on and never hear a peep out of them again.

I'm writing up an article on my install and if you have done gears before you can do these.

The only other tool I've heard of people needing is a differential spreader. Most people that I've heard doing it themselves said they was able to reuse the factory shims as well.

You can get around the spreder by putting a shop rag between the pinion and ring gear and turning the yoke.

For some reason I am the only guy who ran into a problem getting the yoke to seat on the new pinion and had to take it to a guy who builds them all the time.

You aren't the only guy. I am having this same issue in trying to reassemble mine. Seems I can get it to a point, then no more. I am using the heavy duty Craftsman impact (says 780 ft lb, but who knows) on it. Anyone have a better way other than handing it off to a shop?
