In my experience the added open space behind him was the reason he was so careless. If he was packed in close he would of paid extra care.

To the op, you will need to meet an insurance rep, or other person to make a preliminary estimate at a preferred shop to get a basic estimate to compare against. You can pick your own shop but the shop you pick is going to have to work at the rate the insurance company agrees to or you pay the difference. Please let the shop you work with know that you are an unreasonable person and expect a new car out of this deal. Your language is a true tell. They will likely do their best to accommodate you as they would not want you trashing their otherwise good reputation all over the Internet.

OP, I get your frustration, but accidents happen. We have all made mistakes. your car will be fixed good as new, and that type of damage is not going to have a big effect on the cars value. I am sure you will feel better when the hassle of getting it fixed is past. As far as using their shop, if its a good shop, why not? It is your call though. I do think you are being too hard on the guy that hit you. he made a mistake. Nothing really bad has happened here.

Also, the bright side of mine was that I was able to replace the old screw in License Plate bracket (that bolts into your bumper) with one that clamps on! No holes!!

I've gone through this exact thing three different times. The paint never matches. It can get close, but never perfect. The insurance company will not pay to repaint the entire car. My advice: 1. Do some homework and pick a really good shop with the latest in paint matching equipment. Where does your local Lexus dealer get their body and paint work done? 2. When you drop the car off, inform the shop that you want to see the car after it is torn down to review the damage and discuss which parts will be replaced. Be sure to have them remove all the components (headlights, turn signals, etc.) and review each one for damage (you personally inspect each one). 3. Also tell the shop that you expect that all the panel gaps to be perfect and you will not accept the car unless the gaps are aligned and perfectly spaced like new. I suggest finding a new and undamaged car like yours; take photos and panel gap measurements and tell them you expect their work to match. Tell them all this before they give a quote for the insurance company so they can include it in the quote. Good luck

Lol there not gonna paint the whole car, might as well total it at that point. Painting a bumper and painting a whole car is like comparing changing the oil to pulling the block. The entire car will have to be taken apart instead of just the front end.

Wow, a lot of drama over a 5 year old car that all parts are readily available and paint codes are current.
Be glad you weren't this guy....

If you just pay for a new painted bumper yourself, it isn't that much. So then you don't have to have it reported as an accident and you don't need compensation for diminished value. I think its like $370 painted.

Or maybe see if the guy that hit you will just pay for it. I had a guy go through the front of our detached garage at our old house and hit the front of the "69, and he just covered the bill.
