From CTS-V to ZL1 soon
Put in the order yesterday for a new ZL1. The lease on my 2012 CTS-V is up in April and will be replaced by the Z. Giving up the luxury for the muscle car feel and can't wait. I was waiting to see the new V and though it is going to be an awesome ride I can't convince myself to spend the $80k+ to drive one. Then I thought maybe the ATS-V but there I can't convince myself to drive a twin turbo 6. I need the sound and torque of the V8. I loved my V so the ZL1 will surely fill the void. Now just the waiting game.
Here's a pic of the V and soon to have another black beauty. |

Congrats! I had a 2012 V Wagon and now a 2015 ZL1.
I'm a die hard F-body fan. (I've owned 4 in the last twenty years and have had a blast modding and racing them) I actually prefer the interior of the ZL1 to the V, love the retro aspects of the dash. It's lighter, faster and the exhaust tone is just awesome. (Did you order the Recaros?) I'm leaving mine stock minus a drop in filter, drag radials and catch can. What color did you go with? Cheers Chris |

Yes I got the Recaros in the Z. I didn't have them on the V because the $3500 was ridicules.

I currently have a 2012 V and was also waiting on the new V but for 80k plus not sure? I was going to order a new Z06 with the new A8 trans but getting tired of waiting on the A8 to be released to the customers along with some first year issues with the Z Has me looking at the ZL1. But would it be better to wait for the 2016 ZL1? Congrats OP.

I highly doubt there will be a Z in the first year. They almost always wait a year or two before they release the higher performance options. I leased the ZL1 for 2 years and figure by the time the lease is up the new high performance variant will be out. I would go with the Z06 but I have 2 kids and need seats for them.

I own both an A6 CTS-V and M6 ZL1 and both are modified. The ZL1 with 760+ rwhp and the CTS-V with 600+ rwhp.
I am addicted to the Mag-Ride and the weight and size of both cars. The second generation V interior does feel dated compared to the newer ZL1 but they are comparable. The ZL1 feels sexier and gets more thumbs ups but the V gets more people trying to race me on the highway...which I love. Both have a trunk, back seats and both are unique and make me very proud of my Country for the very fact we CAN STILL MAKE WORLD CLASS cars. Negatives on the ZL1 vs the V. - Blind Spots are UNREAL BAD, takes some getting used too - The Stereo completely sucks compared to the V, you will need to upgrade it if that is your thing - 20" wheels on a V look JUST RIGHT, 20" (factory) wheels on the ZL1 look small because of the wheel well and fender height. Like the V, tire options are limited so that is a little frustrating. I'm running Toyo 888s 315/30/20 & 285/35/20 on my ZL1 which are closer in side wall height than the stock sizes, they are loud but the grip is amazing.

sakydog, Nice rides. what tires you running on your Z? nice looking wheels on the V. There are so many bad a** cars coming in the nest couple of years the choices are getting hard, I am mainly a GM guy but just love HP TQ and performance, I mainly drag or Mexico street,Drag and roll race. My last C6 had 630 to the rear tires it was a blast but not much traction. I am going today to check out a new ZL1, Who knows I may come home with it? Flatrock, Yes, You are correct it may be another year or so before a new ZL will come out? But I will bet that new Z will be really bad ass, Good luck with your new Z, Tell us about your order.

From Sakuguy: "Negatives on the ZL1 vs the V.
- Blind Spots are UNREAL BAD, takes some getting used too" Hearing this from so many people almost kept me away from the ZL1. WOW am I glad it didn't. I've said this in a few posts so far, but - perhaps from a CTS-V, visibility is low in the ZL1. But anyone used to visibility in a C6 or C7 will find visibility pretty darned identical! For me, there are NO (yes, N O ) blind spots using stock mirrors, and quick over the shoulder final check. I test drove a 2013 CTS-V, hennessey 630hp before I drove and bought my ZL1. No comparison for me - ZL1 won hands down. |

Congrats Man!! I went from an immaculate OBM 12' V Sedan Auto to a menacing ZL1 6M last year and have not looked back. I loved the V for what it represented. Probably the most highly engineered car that GM has ever made. The car is that good and there is a lot of it in the ZL1, but improved in many arrears IMO. The CTS-V Forum members will think you have lost your mind for moving "down" to the ZL1. Be prepared for that. I was surprised with that attitude.
I have never enjoyed driving a Car more than anything I've owned compared to the ZL1. And that was when it was bone stock. It is a complete Animal now and I get excited just starting it up. You will miss the V however. I tried to keep both but could not swing it. The V3 should be special. Not a fan of that long wheel base and rear end styling though.

Ya, for some reason they think that once you have a V your at a higher level. I just love cars and drive what turns me on at that time. I'm sure the Z will make me plenty happy. I ordered a black coupe, M6, Recaros, Exposed carbon hood insert and Nav. I will add CAI and that's probably it. On my V I had a CAI and Corsa touring exhaust. It was just too quiet!

I think you will love it. The CAI is a must have modification for the ZL1 bad the Recaros are really nice.
