There's no comparison; these are way better than PSS in terms of traction and resistance to overheating.

What the OP and other people talking about here is track tyres. Nitto NT01 is a type of inexpensive tyres that you can take them to the track.
Michelin PSS are street tyres, albeit the best street tyres out there. If you take them to the track, you will regret. They will overheat and you'll see layers and layers of rubber coming off the tyre like an onion. Here is a picture of a PSS after a track weekend, taken by a friend, int2str: ![]() Source: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=816915

I will definitely think about the Nitto NT01 instead of another set of the Pirellis. I will find out how stellar the factory choice is in April.

Very interesting. Was just looking into a 19 rim and 305 square tire set up

Just in case there is confusion, it's not the ideal street tire. It is loud, and is not good when it rains once you get rid of the treads after a few track days. That said, my brother uses NT01s on his Miata daily, and they provide more grip than you'd ever need, even in (mild Seattle) winter.

Are 305's good for street tires daily driver. They look cool because they are wide and I want more grip then these PZeros on the road. Also maybe I would like to go to the drag strip sometime but I have never went. Don't plan on tracking my car. What are the pros and cons

The tyre's width is generally not an issue. Wider tyres are more sensitive to road imperfections, but also allow you to better stay in the ideal line, apex after apex. Unless you are the type who eat, drink, and text while driving and can't keep even one hand on the steering wheel, I don't see 305 front tyres being an issue.

Wider front tires will cause more tramlining. They are also more expensive, which might or might not be a concern.
I disagree with the statement that these tires are deadly. Sure, they'd be harder to control at the limit, but you wouldn't hit the limits on daily roads anyway. The only danger that I can think of is the fact that most r-compounds will need to warm up to perform, more than what, say, PSS would need. Actually, NT01 doesn't even need warm up to get sticky. In other words, they are already stickier than all street tires before they warm up and get even stickier. Their biggest drawback is the very loud tread (which is not common in all R-compounds, but much more likely than street tires) and poor wet performance, not to mention the short life common to all such tires.

I wouldn't use 100 treadwear tires for a daily driver. You'll wear them out super fast.

Very true, especially if this is your only car or if you're on a budget for annual tire expenses.

I just talked to Onlinetires.com. Their price is $359/tire!

Had no problems with my 315 squared NT01's on the street for many many miles..Just not a good tire when its wet outside.
They went about almost as long as my Hankook RS3's and at the track were 3 seconds a lap faster. |
