How?
I own a 2013 Camaro SS. Its bone stock as it's my daily driver. I've lined up against 4 bone stock SRT8 chargers. Lost everytime. How is this? I just don't understand.. A friend has a 2010 Camaro SS bone stock as well and has simply ran with them but never actually beaten them as have I. We haven't been blown out of the water by anymeans but it's just something I don't understand. Both L99 autos. I know with a good tune I could outrun them but to have to do that to beat a stock on their end would just be sad lol.
Are we really that heavy? or are they just faster? |

****Let me clarify that I also own an SRT8, I bought it brand new in 2009. I have not lined both of mine up but I just feel as when I drive my Charger that it would be no match to the Camaro yet the results are clearly different

There are so many variables to racing that it is hard to pinpoint an exact cause. An 09 SRT charger is going to have a slight hp edge on your auto. I have never driven an SS auto but from what I have seen, a tune is really needed to make them wake up.

How?
Had and L99 with tune, CAI, headers, cat back, and gears and a 12 SRT8 Charger beat me by about a car length. They are pushing 470HP stock. Add CAI, headers, exhaust, and they are going to kick are asses.
Here is a good comparison of the specs between both http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...e-specs-page-4

The SRT8 is deceiving. I have owned 2 and they don't feel seat of the pants fast due to weight, size and handling ability compared to the Camaro, However, My 07 SRT ran a 13.0 bone stock the first time I took it took the track. It surprised me because it didn't "feel that fast"

Was it 6.1 or 6.4? The 6.1=drivers race. The fastest stock time 6.1 is 12.6 quarter mile, SS is 12.5 (LS3) 12.7 (L99), 12.2 for 6.4 Hemi. Some basic bolt on and tires for the SS should even it out.

6.4L hemis SRT8s are beast stock and tuned, what an L99 needs is a good (VVT) tune to wake it up

You need a tune to get the autos fast, it's just how it is. Maybe do a set of 3.91's if you're worried about the overall warranty. Not sure if just gears would void everything though, but it'd help.

If it's a 6.1 Charger..then I do not know.
If it's a 6.4 it's because the 392 is a remarkable engine. It makes stupid amounts of torque down low, and past 3,000 RPM it doesn't drop below 400 ftlbs of torque for the entire RPM range. A few neighborhoods over from me there is a person (don't know if male or female) that has a Superbee..and I lose every pull I have with them, and I've got mild bolt on's and a tune. I know they've got an exhaust, intake and tune at least..so they're already pushing 500-515 HP and 485-490 TQ at the crank |
