Exclamation Rod? Lifter? Exhaust?

Recently purchased a 2011 v6 camaro standard from a dealer. Has 45k miles. Noticed a very subtle but rapid low pitched knocking. Soundo like it's coming from the glove box area of passenger side and almost impossible to hear outside of the car, you really need to be in cabin. I don't hear it when I accelerate and It doesn't matter in the ac/heater is on or not. Did the old screwdriver to block trick and didn't hear any enhancement. Still owe 10k. On it so I'm freakin out a little. Still under powertrain warranty for a year. Thank you.

Also, it's on and off. Don't hear it all the time and can only hear it when it's quiet, like at night. Took it to local dealer, he said he doubts it's a lifter or rod. Thinks it is either exhaust or catalytic issue

Don't know but I'll "bump" the question. Good luck.

There is a subtle, but noticeable, tick from the direct injection for 2010 and 2011 model LLTs. I think when the LFX came out they had found a "way" to reduce the ticking sound. Need a video to know if its a tick, knock, or squirrel living inside your valve cover.

It's not the injector tick, that worried me at first.. it's so subtle not sure if my phone could pick it up.. more of a woodpecker sound.. much deeper than the injector tick

I noticed it more when my car is decelerating, but the speed of the knock doesn't seem to change

my car has a ticking sound as well, but I've established its related to my AC. one of the bearings on one of my cabin fans is starting to go, and it ticks when at low speed. prolly not the same issue, but food for thought. seems like they used cheap fans in our AC.

I do think the screwdriver trick would apply to something loose/moving under the valve cover. If this isn't engine related, it could be something with a pulley/belt/accessory related. The fans, as mentioned above.

Ok i appreciate the feedback... also, realistically, how likely is it for a ride with 45k on it to have a bad lifter/rod? This car showed no signs of abuse either. No pedal wear, no curb scrapes... nice tight clutch. Got it for a steal too. 16,500

Typically, if it is specific rod the knock will sound heavy and solid and will match the rev's of the engine. If it is a lifter it will be similar but not as heavy and twice the speed of the rpm. The thing to note is that it will stand out noticeably over the rest of the engine noise. Sometimes a bad lifter will reveal itself at a little higher rpm than idle.

Also check or have check the PCV system, and possibly a top end clean. The issue with DI engines is carbon build up on the back of the valves as there is no fuel sprayed on them to keep them clean.
