Has anyone even bothered to answer the OP, or is this just another thread ruined by a pissing match?

How much power are you looking for? Most of the boltons you can do yourself even if you don't have much experience. As for tuning, you can wait until Matt@FSP is in town again to get a dyno tune, or you can have him or Rhino79 at GPI do a remote tune. If you want to go bigger, then consider the IPF supercharger or IPS/Fabberge turbo kits already mentioned. Whatever route you decide, spend some time in the V6 sections and read up on what is available and the results to be had. Some things provide more bang for the buck than others.

You think the 6th gens are being designed and tested with a V6 or a V8 under the hood? You think they're going to have a V6 camaro at the NY auto show? No, because outside of this forum V6 camaro's are a laugh compared to what they run against. They get better mileage than their V8 counterparts, they do have decent pick-up and they look damn good too. But when people start talking about go-fast is where the line ends. No reason to sugar coat it and tell them that theyre car will outrun a late 60's camaro with a 327. I seriously doubt that would happen. Gotta look at torque and weight of those cars, they would absolutely wipe the floor with a 5th gen V6 camaro. That being said, there's several guys around this forum that have neat, modded V6's. They're quick, and put down really respectable times at the strip. Most importantly they're different. If that's what you want, go for it. I'd look up a few of their builds and talk with them. But the reason this V8 thing always pops up is because it is easier and it makes more sense to make more power with more cubes.

Agreed. Of course, the V8 makes more sense if your goal is to head to the race track. There is also no reason to dump 8-10k into a V6 in order to make it into something it isn't meant to be. I'm not saying that the V6 is a race car. BUT... that doesn't mean a V6 can't be modded, or that it's a crappy car not worth owning. For the money, the Camaro V6 is a damned nice car it offers excellent performance. This is a Camaro forum and like it or not, the V6 is a part of the Camaro family. Many guys own a V6 because the V8 is simply out of their price range. If they want to add some horsepower and mod their car, they should be able to ask questions and learn - without being constantly told to "get a V8". That answer is bull. Most guys knocking the V6 have never driven one. I have, and they are quick and are a lot of fun.

Then you claim you think these cars aren't even tested with V6 engines? The Camaro wouldn't exist without the V6. The sales numbers are posted on this forum all the time and the V6 outsells the V8 by a wide margin. The V6 is what pays the bills and makes the high performance variants possible. This forum is supposed to be for people who love Camaros. People like you have no business here. Why don't you get a Ford, Honda, or whatever you think is so great and go grace their forums.

As long as the OP drives the camaro like it was meant to be driven he'll have fun. Whether its a v6 or v8 each motor has its pros/cons. I see a lot of camaro/corvette drivers on the road that accelerate at a snails pace from every stop light which in my opinion, is not driving the car. I'm not saying you need to lay down rubber at every light but when the minivan next to you is pulling away faster something is wrong.
OP if you wanna have fun with the car mod it to your liking/budget. if you have a manual, keep the v6 in its powerband it'll def be fun. Mod list for me as a new V6 owner: -VTC -CAI Intake -MRTV1 Exhaust -Elite Catch Can -ZL1 10 Spoke Rims -RS Headlight Conversion and when I finally save up enough Forced Induction. Definitely happening before I buy a v8... Sleepers are much cooler than something you know is fast stock. |
