There are kids that get things given to them and still appreciate it. There are others that do not. By no means is this the same caliber of situation, but one of my early cars was a '70 Nova SS396 that we bought as a rolling chassis. Not sure what happened to the tranny, but the engine died in a horrible nitrous explosion with the previous owner. I loved that car, but in a multiple car accident that was never settled in terms of blame, the car was totaled (hit a telephone pole at about 70 as a result, and me and my buddy walked away....damn lucky). I was without wheels, went back to school, and was bumming. Got home from college that summer and to make a long story short, my grandparents gave me a $3200 loan to buy a '69 Camaro. I was to pay them $300 a month over the summer, and then the same next year, and then finish up payments the summer after that. I made 2 payments, and they gave me a homemade bill of sale saying the car was mine. It was a great gesture on their behalf. That was in 1985. It is 30 years later, and I still own that car. It has come a long way, but it is still with me. Don't judge the OP on his car, or his comments (he is just 18 or so....think back to those years...say or do anything stupid?), and don't judge his new friend either. If anyone would have offered me a new Corvette or Camaro at their age, I dam sure would have taken it. And looking at my story, I did not insist on paying my Grandparents the full amount either! To finish, I graduated from college with an engineering degree. Was given a car my senior year by my parents (Mon's '86 SS Monte) to replace my junk college cars (the '69 always stayed home), got a job out of school, and have never not had a paycheck since. Getting 2 cars given to me did not make me work any less hard. Parents helping a child to have more than they did is just fine, as long as the proper values are taught as well.

I like how stating facts is considered hate. the truth is offensive. All anyone said is it must be nice to have things handed to you. We all know it would be.

I'm not jealous of jay Leno's garage.. But if I saw his son strutting around campus in a fancy car, I'd state the facts.. That's your dads car. Truth=hate?

Yeah I have heard sooo many stories about it. Luckily (I think) for me my curriculum stops at Calculus 2.

I heard Linear Algebra isn't so bad, but it sounds like it!

Honestly though, I've learned that Math is like a sport or a foreign language. You can't just read a chapter and soak up info like you can with almost any other subject.

It requires practice... and lots of it. Just like a sport would, y'know?

Sure... but the derogatory statements came from people who know nothing of the reason a kid (wait... dude could be 40 years old, returning to college after spending 10 years volunteering for the Peace Corps). Maybe the college student lost a leg in the war when he served in the military. Maybe he started his own business and earned the money to buy the car.

Of course, it's more LIKELY that dad wrote the check for the car... my point is, a kid with a nice car is villianized by people assume their own backstory, assume that it SURELY means the kid is a piece of crap, and don't even consider the possibility that the truth of the story MIGHT be different from what their quick- to- judge little minds have come up with.

Did I work for every penny spent on any car I've ever owned? Yep. My dad was a doctor, but he made me buy my own car, with money that I earned. I also attended a high school near a major medical institution, where MOST of the students were given badass cars by their Daddies Warbucks upon the age of 16... up to and including Panteras. But my first 20 cars probably didn't add up a total of a thousand dollars in real value. That would make me a prime candidate to snipe and whine and cry about the spoiled kids who get the keys handed to them, but, I have chosen to accept that I do not know anybody's history, reason for having a car, or personal method of means... and it's none of my business, either.

Yea I forgot about all the rich 40 year old peace corps veterans who drive a 7speed manual with one leg and head back to college for there degree. You read a few comments it's not hard to see what were working with and people called a spade a spade. Nothing wrong with it. look at the first comments that were called "hate"

Also how did this guy get 442rwhp with headers intake tuned?

Calculus sucks. But it's one of the few math classes I actually used on the job.

Lol. Snow isn't a thing in Baton Rouge. Or in Louisiana for that matter. Classes were cancelled today partially due to Mardi Gras. Just was very board.
