Z/28 CAI picture heavy
I know there are other OEM Z/28 CAI threads, but none had the picture I wanted comparing the stock LS3 air box to the Z/28 box.
This is the 3rd intake on my 1LE and by far the best fitment. Others were SLP and then Roto-Fab. Here are the pictures and part of the install: -Matt

Looks great! Do you have a pic of how you tied it into the 1LE separator?

Have you checked your fuel trims after installing. Looks great. Thanks for posting detailed pics. Like how its open in the front but blocked off from the motor.

If I didn't already have an AirRaid, I would be all over that cold air intake.
Also I really like what you did with your engine cover.

I like it. Looking forward to additional pictures of the hook up of the lines. Does the 90 degree fitting come with the intake or what did you use for that?
Thanks |

I cant wait for somebody to dyno this intake..very curious how it does. Would probably make a lot more power with an oiled gauze filter so gona have to keep that on mind when comparing to aftermarket.
Matt, can you put some playdough or something on that intake hood seal to see how it seals with 13 hoods?

Just curious, but why switch from rot-fab to the z28....i wouldn't think that there's that much of a difference between the 2....i have a rot-fab so thats why I'm curious why you switched...

I think the GM unit is superior, numbers aside. the quality looks much better IHMO.
Roto fab is nice, but it still has that aftermarket look.

The Roto-Fab was fine as an aftermarket piece, but it is not OEM quality or fit. I just didn't like the metal shield as it sat close to and rubbed on the metal lines next to the radiator. I also didn't like the MAF sensor housing they provide. It works fine, but the molding tool that molds the two halves is offset. There is a ridge between the two halves. I guess I have been working in the industry here long enough that I don't like products that don't have an OE fit and finish. The Z/28 intake was removed from the box and test fit in place in under 10 minutes! I also like the fact that the companies that have modified Z/28s all appear to be using the stock intake on the car and supporting 550+whp....My goal is 450+whp so this will work just fine for me. -Matt

Didn't make any progress this weekend...With the temps here it may be a couple weeks before I work on this again. No, I had the 90 degree on the car before. I purchased it in the "help" section of the local auto parts store located in the PCV area. EDIT: Also need to mention that there is a male to male connector between the hose and the 90 as neither had a provision to connect to the other. I had to cut a tab off to make it work, but it was also found in the "help" section.
Thanks Dropspeed. Do you by chance have the part numbers that you used. Additionally looking at the stock Z28 photos, it appears that GM uses a clip to hold the MAF wire to the plastic air intake tube. Anyone know how to locate this clip. I tried to pull up on the Chevy parts website, but could not find the specific detail or parts schematic. |
