  1. Layout
    • The L99 and LS3 engines are both built on the same platform, featuring 6.2L of displacement and eight cylinders. The camshaft of the L99 engine has slightly less duration than the one found in the LS3, giving the Camaro SS paired with this motor a smoother ride. The compression ratio of the L99 motor is 10.4:1, as the pistons have valve reliefs machined in the top halves of the pieces. The LS3's compression ratio is 10.7:1.

Compression ratio:10.7:1
The lower CR is due to reliefs in the piston to prevent piston to valve clearance problems when VVT is doing its thing.

Yes.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/wiki.p...specifications

When I was first wanted a 5th gen Camaro in 2006 I thought that it was crazy and why would some one get the automatic if it came with less horsepower. Fast forward I have the L99 auto cuz of the VVT it has. Also I did plan on drag racing a lot.

I see on this website people putting down other people for driving auto transmission camaro's. Saying "Lazy" "Stupid" etc. Did some of you guys that shoot your mouths off stop and think maybe they have to?
Some of "US" might have problems with our leg or legs and can't drive a manual transmission for long periods of time. YOU know due to serving our country and losing a leg or having some triple A in your legs from when your plane got hit huh? I learned how to drive a standard transmission in the late sixties when I was very young. For some of us having an auto transmission is the only way we can have a camaro. Sorry I get upset at norrow mindness

^ Yes I agree some people do. I do not fully understand why. First car I learned was manual and it was easy, second nature matter a fact. I don't know why people always try to take shots.

I too have an A6/L99 for 2 reasons health issues and sometimes I h a ve to LA in crazy traffic that takes an hour to travel 6 miles. If I had to shift all the way, I'd kill myself just to end the misery, (joking)
I thought about getting the M6/LS3 bc I love the motor, and adding the auto trans, but didn't have the money for that.

Because peak horsepower is less important than a flat torque curve, where the L99 has an advantage due to VVT.
