IOM Question for Painters

Does anybody happen to know what color primer/sealer should go under IOM to get the correct color?

Please don't post if you DON'T know.

Thanks

I can tell you from experience (I was a painter for 10 years before I do what I do now) - the best color to use under red is white/very light grey sealer, so I would assume the same would be true for orange. Most red's are semi-opaque, and dark colored sealers give a dark cast to the final color. That is, unless you load the thing with 10 coats of base (which shouldn't be necessary). If you use red oxide, double the amount of color coats you expect you will need.

So in short- use the lightest colored sealer you can get.

Slacker,

Thanks! I figured a white sealer but wasn't too sure. Some of the exposed places on my car look as though there is a black base.

You could do a spray out if you are trying to make sure you get a 100% match- all paint stores sell these cards with half black/half white face and a hole in the middle. You spray as many coats as it takes to cover, then you compare to your car. I had a whole set of spray out cards for the vehicles I painted (first Lincolns, then Honda/Mitsu).
