That was my point, his reference to mb/BMW owners who seemed to like the 305/30zr20 tires is irrelevant because they were using them in the rear.

In response to which wheels I ordered. I am awaiting 20x10.5 et 15 Forgestar F14 in Super Deep Concave with gloss black finish like the wheel on the right in the pic below. Cost $500 a wheel.

Honestly......I do love the stockers but wouldn't mind a change up to. Forgestars look prime.

I think the better way to handle this issue, for a street-driven Z/28, is to keep the stock wheels and install Yokohama AD08-R tires. Tread noise and tracking issues are solved, and I'm convinced this is one of the best choices in high-performance street tires for the Z/28. I have these Yokos installed on my OEM wheels, for street use, and have the OEM tires mounted to a set of Finspeed wheels, for track days...

That sounds like a great setup! I do plan to replace my RS3s with AD08Rs for street when they're done.

The Yokohama AD08R is a great tire that I had on my last Porsche, but I think my solution will be better for street driving for the following reasons:

Michelin PSS in 285/35R20 will be less expensive than Yoko AD08R and last twice as long while performing similarly (in addition to offering a 35,000 mile treadwear rating when same size used all around).

The 2"added tire diameter will increase the ground clearance about 1" for easier bump and driveway splitter clearance, and will decrease the tire to fender gap. It will however reduce speedometer accuracy by 6%.

The 35 series tire will add comfort over the 30 series tire for road imperfections and bumps.

A square setup permits tire rotation to further prolong tire life.

The front wheel will tuck slightly which will aesthetically improve the look IMO.

Trofeos on the forged stockers are the way to go on the track

The Z/28 is built to perform on the track. Wide front tires enhance braking and reduce understeer which is why they are found on this car. There are reasons why no other street vehicle comes with such wide front tires. It's not because no other manufacturer thought of irt before. The main reasons are a narrower front tire will maneuver better and not tramline. I'm happy that you love how your car drives with 305s, but it will drive better for street use with 275s or 285s up front, which, last I checked, are still very wide tires too.

As soon as I get my wheel/tire package, I will report back with my full impressions. Maybe I'll not like it any better than oem sizes. We'll see. I'm just going on what two supposed wheel experts have recommended. One was involved in the development of wheels for the Z/28 but ended up not getting the contract because he was out-bid.
I totally disagree. My SS handled better in all conditions with either a 295-30-19 ADO8R Yok or the Bridgestone RE-11 305 30-19 as well as Hankook RS3 305 30-19 over any more narrow tire. I personally believe it's the softer front rear smaller control arm bushings that move more than my Pfadt spherical bushing upgraded arm that doesn't move at all and keeps my front totally stable. My car with those front tires doesn't tramline at all. It could also be the tire design that cause this. Also any rim from TSW forged barrel cast spokes in 19x10.5 +27 is a consideration for you Z28 owners looking for a not recommended by me winter set. I would never drive a Z28 in winter too special of a car.

Ummm you mean a change down. I highly put GMs Z28 wheels higher in quality than the crap but look good Forgestars.

+1. Forgestar wheels are very much inferior to the OEM Z/28 wheels.

For street use, Forgestar F14 wheels are more than adequate. They proved far more durable than expensive HRE 3 piece wheels I had before them. At least, that was my experience.

That makes sense. I honestly don't understand why people choose 3-piece forged wheels over 1-piece forged when the pricing is also very close. Now if you could have different barrels, and could easily switch (which you can't)...

What is the advantage of 3-piece?

Obviously Forgestars cannot compare strength wise to forged monobloc wheels. But that's a lot of $ for street rims. I prefer to use that money on track goodies.

Hey Dr Chill, did you mount your wheels yet? if so can you post some pics pleeease?
I'm looking at doing the exact same thing but would like to see what that looks like and hear how the car drives with those wheels.

TIA

Andrew
