There is a really nice twin turbo setup available for the V8.........you want crazy horsepower why start with just 6 cylinders?

I need a V8 in my Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Corvette, etc. Numbers take a backseat for me compared to the rumbling sound at the forefront.
The GTR has a V6, cool. A V8 would sound weird from the way the car looks. The Ford GT has a V6, cool. Bold move by Ford, but it sounds like it'll work. That TT V6 almost sounds like a Cummins, akin to a jet engine. It's fitting. |

Why buy an SS why not buy a zl1? Why don't the zl1 guys buy a vette? Why don't the vette guys buy a Bugatti? Why doesn't the Bugatti owner buy chuck Norris? Ok I may have got out of hand. There is always better. The v6 is not king of the road end all be all. Nor is your v8. Everyone has an opinion and we are all entitled to it.

You really can't compare 600 HP factory turbocharged engine with a 600 HP aftermarket turbocharged engine. Both are great and lots of fun, but one comes with a warranty and the other doesn't. That being said, I went the aftermarket route and I'm happy, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a factory twin turbo engine that makes 600 HP...no matter how many cylinders it has.

Some people just have to have a x number of cylinders or a particular sound.... Which is fine, just don't tell others they have to feel the same way...

Not everyone needs or wants crazy horsepower. A 600hp Turbo V6 Camaro sounds perfect to me

If im going with a twin turbo V6, itll be in something international where they have been doing it for a long time and mastering supercars, euro sports etc. Not in a so called "muscle" car. The definition of the word "rumble" would have to change when referring to a muscle car if it was a turbo v6

Everyone is different and everyone has an opinion. Before you give it however, maybe you should think first. Don't stand on a soap box and tell me I've never worked on my V8 or popped the hood. Also it comes off a tiny bit hypocritical when you're slamming V8 owners while you stand next to your SS. Food for thought.
Is technology changing? Yup, sure is. Is it impressive what they can do with technology? Absolutely. Will I run out and throw myself on the bandwagon? Not a chance. If people will recall not all that long ago everyone said the pushrod V8 was a dinosaur and would never keep up with new technology(both power and fuel mileage). Back in the mid 90's when Ford switched over from the pushrod motor and GM didn't, they just knew they were gonna own the market. Enter the LS line of motors... Hmm, I'd said it has kept up pretty darn well. I'm not a V6 or 4-banger hater by any means(I own a HHR SS as my dd). But for those who keep telling themselves the V6's get so much better gas mileage, you should look at the numbers. It's not THAT much better. The V8's are pretty darn decent on fuel all things considered. I don't buy Camaros for fuel mileage, imagined or otherwise. I buy them b/c they look good and the V8 hauls the mail the way I like it to. Fast and loud. They are tough. They are reliable. Why would I switch now after 20 years of driving/racing them? Is it cool? Yes, very cool actually! Will I buy it? No. It's all in what you grew up with, and I grew up working on and racing V8's, generational gaps I suppose. Just not gonna buy a V6 Camaro. Turbo or otherwise.

To be honest......sure IF that were the only option.....that is if there were no V8;'s in the line up at all. granted you can get the HP, but you won't have as much torque as a V8 making the same HP. and on top of that.....you will NOT have that deep throaty growl that is produced by a V8.......you will sound more like a European car....which is just a step above a 4 banger.

For those of us who know we are going to mod, the lack of a larger displacement engine is something we consider at the purchase. I bought my current car knowing I would drive it around stock until the warranty was gone and the payments were done, and then mod the bejezus out of it. One of the pluses in my mind was that it had an LS engine I was already familiar with, and that engine had tons of aftermarket support already. For me, this is an affordable way to eat my cake and have it to. The idea that it is somehow always more affordable to just upgrade to the next factory offering instead of building what you have is ignorant. If this were true, everyone would race stock vehicles. The fact is no matter what car you purchase, they are modified to improve on or eliminate their weaknesses when folks start racing them. For those that would say those sort of mods are not necessary for street cars or dd, I say mind yo bidness.

There's no telling what the future will bring. American muscle cars and V8 engines are inseparable. You can't have one without the other. Trouble is, we've got severe CAFE standards coming up in the future. Will the V8 continue to live? ..
I remember when Hot Rod magazine predicted the death of any aftermarket modding of cars due to OBDII. There was even a campaign to send mail and make phone calls to congressmen and senators in order to stop that legislation. Look how that turned out. OBDII is actually pretty cool. Who'd a thought you could change your timing with a few clicks of a mouse?

I keep seeing people post that it won't have the torque. We aren't talking about a naturally aspirated V6. The 3.5 EB in the F150 makes 420 lb-ft at only 2500 RPM. That's the same peak torque as the LS3, but at 2100 RPM lower. You can make high peak TQ and high peak HP with modern turbos.

Not offering the V8 will finish the Camaro for many many many people. It is pretty easy to see the generation differences between posts. For the most part old school no V8=no Camaro. New school as long as it is fast =who cares. Some people love the Gtr because of its performance, while others despise it for its lack of driving experience. The car guys are going to be in rear trouble with the new school designers who want auto parking, accident avoidance, and auto driving cars. I don't care if the new car has a quadra turbo charged 2 cylinder fueled on hydrogen, No V8 = no purchase.
