Not with light enough throttle input. Dad can keep his in 4 cylinder mode nearly constantly, even accelerating. He's a retired 74 year old going no place in particular, in no hurry, and AFM is about his favorite pastime. He won't let anyone else drive his truck because they'll screw up his average

No range here and I get 19 mpg and that is with the occassional 80-95 spirited interstate driving that I do going home from work.I got a best of 20.7 on a road trip to Katy,Texas visiting my sister and family.I could have gotten better mpg if I hadn't done 10-15 over the speed limit going there and back.

L99 also has VVT... Many cams and tunes are now using the VVT to make a broader power curve than the same motor with an "LS3" swap (no VVT). Why do people think the L99 is a downgrade from the LS3? Last time I checked the L99 was quicker...

Where in the L99 SS exhaust are the flex couplings? I have been under my 2010 SS many times & have never noticed them.

Also why are they there in the first place?

I think there may be one between the manifold and first catalytic converter. But the ones I've seen usually look with a weaved pipe.

From what I understand, flex couplings help isolate engine vibration from the rest of the exhaust system.

Same here! I kept thinking "Wait! How did he get an LS3 in an automatic SS" not realizing he isn't talking about a Camaro...

I don't know what else to call it.

What happens is people will say, "wow, awesome car, what is it?"

"It's an SS", I say.

"An SS what?", is what I usually get back.

Thanks For that GM

And by doing that it better isolates the vibrations from the body.

I was going by memory. On our way down to Fest number 1 we had autos that had added an extra flex coupling. 4 total was what was in my memory.

2013 L99, the Range costs me about 2-3 mpg.

It is worth it to me. On highway driving I can remove the Range and increase my mpg's by the 2-3 referenced above.

I agree with the posters saying it works, as I said in another post, I find it hard to believe GM put the technology in the car, at an extra cost, for no reason.

I believe I read somewhere that it is supposed to give a 10 percent increase in FE.

The Range gives me the option, and is worth it.

I have a Tahoe with AFM, it doesn't activate as much as my L99 did and it is not noticeable either. Not sure why it was so much more noticeable in the Camaro before tuning out but it was irritating at low speeds.
