How do you gauge the quality of microfiber towels?
When shopping for MF, it seems like I never know for sure what I'm getting until it arrives. I can read the details, but I don't know how one ranks against the others. I read Dylan's excellent article on MF care that he posted recently, and that answered some of my questions (like GSM rating), but there are still a few things I'm fuzzy on. I know that edgeless is safest for my finish, but beyond that, I'm pretty clueless.
Here is an example of the specs one of The Rag Company's towels:
Is more polyester good, or is 20% a lot for Polymide? "Premium Split Microfiber" - does that really mean something, or is it just fancy talk? Can anyone chime in on this?

Once you get to knowing some of the people on this board and other detailing forums, in your head you come out with a trust list of people's who's opinions you trust. Most every worthwhile towel has a review somewhere. If not, sometimes you take a risk but it may be worth it.
At least, that's how I do it lol When I try an unknown towel, I look if the MF is Korean, what company sells it, reviews, nap, and gsm. These will give you a preliminary idea of how the MF towel will behave

I'll use a quality reference like Microfiber Towels Magazine and check the latest head-to-head test. Or I'll go to wally world and grab a five pack. The larger the better. Skip the fabric softener when drying as it decreases absorption.

Welcome to OCD detailing.
Or instead of trying a few of the many manufacturers you could search for Microfiber Madness and get some of those. They will never disappoint and many of us have come to accept them as the benchmark for comparison.

That's a great read from Charlie, I enjoyed it.
I personally have used The Rag Company and stuck with them for general microfiber (I use MFM Incredimitt and Dry Me Crazy otherwise). TRC is all produced out of S. Korea, it defintely compares with the other higher end microfiber out there. Is it the best? Probably not, but for the prices you can't beat the trade off.
