It's all about controlling costs and maximizing profits. GM has been under pressure for their profits by their shareholders.
I dont like it, but at the same point the proof will be in the sales. Personally I think they should do the Hyundai model or something similar where the 100K powertrain warranty is only good for the original owner of the vehicle. (It might be this way now, not certain) |

Could be a money making ploy... from what I've heard, GM is bringing the extended warranty back in-house, and this would be a way of adding value to that plan. They will sell more plans if the warranty ends 40,000 miles sooner.
This might end up pushing me into a different direction with my next vehicle. |

I read this as Chevrolet is seeing how shitty the Displacement On Demand is, along with their oil life monitoring system.
Yes, let's shut off these 4 cylinders for extended periods of time, and then go 20k on a non-synthetic oil. What could POSSIBLY go wrong in 100,000 miles?!?!??!

I think part of it might be direct injection and the problems associated with it near 100k. Almost all engines will be DI in the future.

Could it be the real reasons are too many engine failures? Seems to me that if they had confidence in their power trains and wanted to maintain their customer base they would stick with the 100k warranty. When the 2016 Camaro comes out I will then give the Mustang a good look too. That extra 100k warranty would be enough to stay with Chevy but seems like they just don;t get it. ![]() |
