This is the way I look at it. With any manual car, you can choose weather you want it to guzzle gas or be more economical.

For example, I wanted to see what the absolute best gas mileage I could get in stop and go traffic for a 30 mile round trip. I ended up getting 16 mpg and this was constant stop and go the whole time. I skipped gears, constantly threw it in neutral and accelerated moderately. If it was less stop and go, I could have been at close to 20 probably.

When I had my Mustang 5.0, I got almost the same gas mileage as I do in my ZL1. You can manipulate the manuals enough to make the car pretty economical. I haven't found my Zl1 to eat more gas then my last couple cars which was a BMW 335 and a Mustang 5.0. They got great gas mileage when I drove the car smart, and terrible when I didnt.

And when you're talking about gas mileage comparisons for cars in the same class, let's just say the ZL1 gets two or three miles less than some of the other cars. If each car came with let's say a 15 gallon tank, that would be 30 miles less then ZL1 would get. If gas is 3 bucks a gallon, you are talking about a difference of 5 or 6 bucke each fill up. lets day three or four fill ups a month, your talking about a maximum of 30 bucks a month more in gas the ZL1 would consume againt most other sports cars.

USA Today didn't classify it as a compact our government did.

Don't they have industry standards for car sizes? That is probably why we are getting ripped off so bad in the gas guzzler tax. Our car is in the wrong category?

How does it get 14mpg average? I do 17-19 on average with commuting and backroad fun.

2014 Malibu DD, doing my part to save the world. Don't care about the mileage of the toys. My boat gets 1 mile a gallon / minute when cruising at 60, a lot worse at WOT. The mileage on the ZL1 seems like a bargain.

With 6mp I can do close to 20 city driving. It's not too bad on gas honestly

I get better mileage than all of you. My tank is still full from last October. Probably not having as much fun, though

Yeah I don't know, I get 16.2 in mine even with tracking the car about once a month.
