Engine guru's I beg your advice
Ok, this has been asked in the past but the answer was a tad vague.
12:1 compression heads on a stockish l99 (vvt-1 cam) I was considering picking up a flex fuel sensor, injectors and converting e85 like the coyote guys do (they are 11:1 stock, thus the gain when they add a buttload of timing). I'm mainly asking if anyone has done something similar with a stock bottom end on ours. I have seen some awesome track/dyno results with 11.4:1 compression 93 octane tuned 5th gens, but I'm just curious if there is anything more in adding e85, bumping compression to 11.5:1-12.5:1, and running a relatively mild vvt cam like I run now. I really hope I'm asking this correctly being that it is a common yet uncommonly asked question being so specific. Just wanting see how much we could get out of our cars before a stroker build and being bolt on/budget minded build. esp after seeing a e85, cobra jet intake, headers (full catless exhaust) coyote consistently dyno 450whp through the auto last night. Any info would be taken well into consideration, thank you all

Well for one the mustang has a solid rear axle thus a lot less loss of torque and h.p. for a automatic with a one piece drive shaft... we have two... so he has a free flowing exhaust with tune a intake etc and runs e-85 its like sooooooo what....... especially with what dynos vary..... You want to read up on e-85threads go ahead, you want to bump compression to insano levels go ahead and be prepared to have problems....problems getting gas anywhere, problems tuning just right, and problems doing the math where it comes out as a good decision versus regular good old gasoline..... there are other threads about this government EPA run scam to make us all use corn.... it will go the way of the dinosaur as its only good at making more pollution and destroying undisturbed grass lands so people can grow more corn and basically do exactly the opposite when they release 50 years worth of co2 from rotting the natural vegetation to grow crap corn. There are also other parts of the engine fuel system that would need upgrade, and it throws your warranty into the trash bigtime....... and yes in a ls3 your at 10.7 stock a less...and that can be changed. Your best mods are ones that are already done by others on here, and I used to own a l99 2011 2ss/rs and investigated things back when mast motorsports was the only ones and first making vvt cams etc....

You'd have an increase in power since you could run more timing. I know a few folks with E85 flex fuel setups on CTS Vs and a blown Camaro on SBE.
You'd need bigger injectors but I'm not sure what size.

Good idea
Increasing compression will give you some substantial power increases. If you run 2 points higher compression, going E85 is probably the best way to go. I don`t know what the power increase would be but I know you would have a big time sleeper with the mild VVT cam you`re running. It`s a interesting method that really doesn't get talked about much around here.
If you go that route. I`d be very curious to see what you ended up with. Between the increase in static compression and timing you could dial in with E85, you would make some big power. Just keep in mind the amount of Fuel it will take to run E85. Let us know how it works out. |

I've been reading for years that every point increase in compression yields a 3-5% increase in horsepower.

Well i was going either flex fuel or just with two tunes for fuel type. And being in oklahoma city e85 isnt hard to find. But i am curious as well, i would assume 12:1 compression could get me in the upper 400s for sure. But starting next month when the guy doing my heads has some free time to start in on mine.
