Paint rub warning 2014 SS
I spent the afternoon installing a new spoiler on my car. When I removed the original spoiler, I noticed two places where it had rubbed off the paint on the rear deck lid. Both places were about the size of a quarter and the paint was totally gone. I don't know if the lid is aluminum or steel. If I hadn't found it, I am sure it would have led to corrosion at some point in the future.
Before I installed the new spoiler, I repaired both places with touch up paint. The new spoiler totally covers the damaged area. I just thought I would pass this along. Anyone who owns an SS should probably check theirs out. Mine was worn down to bare metal. Here is a photo taken after I finished the install. The worn spots were under the circled area on both sides. I apologize for not taking any photos of the damage. I didn't think about the forum until I was finished.

I recently plasti-dipped my rear spoiler and noticed the same thing. Two spots on the trunk wore down and no paint left at all. Couldn't believe it and wonder what causes this. I have also heard several of my friends with 2014 Camaros running into the same problem. Wonder if GM with do something about this.

Yeah, pretty much every picture I've seen of someone that has removed/replaced the spoiler had the same issue.

I had no issues, and I thought only 2010s had the problem but maybe the 14s do too.

My 14 SS has some type of "rub shield" there. I was just looking at it yesterday, as it appears to be slightly slipping out of place on the driver's side. It's like a piece of 3M trim molding tape with adhesive only on the trunk lid side. It's starting to get a bit brittle and "flaky" as well.

Raised my spoiler just a little off the trunk...my paint was fine....just a bit of dirt. The dirt accumulation is the culprit I'm thinking.

My '13 had it about 6 months old when I changed the spoiler.

Yep! I have a 1LE and took the spoiler off to put on a Z28 spoiler. Paint rubbed through to bare aluminium in several spots! I only have 4000 miles on it. I touched it up and the Z28 spoiler should cover up most of all the spots! Putting a layer of xpel film under the Z28 spoiler to protect from any further damage.

I purchased the Z/28 Spoiler and the Wicker and when removing my spoiler on my 2014 2SS I noticed I have paint rubbed down to the metal. Took it to my dealership and talked with their service manager and he's making some calls about it today.
