catless LT header problems

Hey everyone, I'm going to be buying some LT headers in the next few days and where I live emissions aren't a big deal so I want to save some money by going with catless headers. So my question is if I go with off road headers will it cause any problems with my car such as sensors, fuel mileage etc? Thanks in advance for all the help!

I don't have any problems.
You will get a CEL without a tune though that's about it.
If I remember correctly, you will get better gas mileage when you remove your cats but I could be wrong.

So the tune that you have to get when installing LT headers is only for the CEL? Just making sure I will be installing TSP headers in the next few weeks

no the tune is so the car will run best. Yes you can run without the tune but your AF ratio will be off. GET THE TUNE.

Is this the same tune as a performance tune or is it a tune that you get from a local mechanic shop?

you get a dyno tune or you can get a data logged tune. thats it. no canned tunes

Could you elaborate on the data Log tune?

if you do not have someone local to tune the car correctly (on a dyno), another option is a "data log tune". This is where you would plug a device/recorder into your ODBC port and let it log information about your car (air/fuel, power, torque, etc). This recording would be sent back to a remote tuner. The remote tuner would analyze your information and create a tune specifically for your car and mail it back to you. You would then upload that tune into your car with the same device.

@GreymaroSS Spend some time and read thru some of the threads here on C5, there is a lot of information to decipher but its worth the read. I'll do my best to sum it all up for you.

What JCunningham is referring to is a email/remote tune. Where you purchase the tuning equipment and have the tuner of your choice tune your car from a distant location using the information gathered by you when you drive your car.

Once you purchase say....HPTuners or SCT they have the ability to record things like your timing, and fuel trims along with a mirage of other details that your tuner will want to look at, same as if he was on the dyno with the car himself. You drive around and capture the data and send that data back to him. He then modifies your tune and sends it back to you so that you can load it into your car. That process is repeated as many times as needed until you and your tuner are satisfied with the end result.

Taking it one step further is what I did before I went forced induction. That is after you datalog and tune on the street for a period of time, you then go and get the car dynoed. While on the dyno, you'll be sending those data logs back to your tuner as you did while street tuning and he then will make changes as he did before. The only difference is he has a dyno to look at, again, as if he was right there with you.

A good tuner in my experience can get the car dialed in on the street and will only need a few swings with it on the dyno, so that you don't need to spend more than the hour your paying for.

If your going to go the remote option and follow up with a dyno run to remotely tune the car, make sure you pick someone that has done that sort of thing before (most have) and more importantly make sure you tell them you plan on taking it to the dyno for fine tuning, some will charge extra for that service.

You can't go wrong with Jannetty.

You can run the offered pipes without issue tho. Sure your car would make more power, but it will not hurt anything. Unless of course you also have an intake. Then it would be a waste not to tune your car considering the money that was already put into it. The intake and lts will also make you run lean, so I would def get a tune.

Oh yeah and screw saving money, the sound would be worth another couple hundred! Just wait brother, you will feel like you are ten again as soon as you hear that bad boy start up for the first time.

No problems with not running cats. A good tuner can make it less stinky. The sound is incredible, I run an x-pipe, resonators and magnaflows and its perfect not too loud.

Make sure you get it tuned, if you plan on doing more mods then hold off on the tune until they are all installed. But definitely get it on the dyno to set the Air/Fuel ratio. It will also affect how the headers discolor, if you run untuned.
