Glass is glass dude nothing inferior about it. I paid mine out of pocket (yes I did miss the part of his insurance company paying) but still I could care less about oem and cheap glass. I live in Houston and my car is a hard driven daily and I will be replacing it again before the year is out. Just part of living in Houston, yes it will be cheap inferior glass again too. Thats ok though, I have money leftover still for my other badass toys (09 Z06, 2011 ctsv wagon, 2012 Mitsubishi evolution mr, and my newest toy new srt8 jeep grand cherokee), so yes I don't give 2 shits about "inferior" glass.

not all glass is good glass. I do not know about on the Camaro but I had to buy a windshield once because It was on a truck i was rebuilding Not on the road and I was 19 so I bought cheap glass. Not even 24hrs after it was installed the 1st stone kicked up by the truck in front of me chipped and it cracked.

Nobody's a db. The OP asked about getting his HUD windshield replaced and a couple people responded that there's no special windshield for HUD,
which is false. Apparently, you knew about the HUD windshield and chose not to use it. That's fine. It's your car and you can do what you want. The OP may choose to do the same thing, but by now, at least he knows now that there is a HUD windshield and a non-HUD windshield.
Some of us don't understand why anyone would want to use a non-HUD windshield in a HUD car because we live in states that have insurance laws, with windshield clauses. Where I live, if I want my windshield replaced, I just go to a glass shop and have it replaced. When they're done, I sign my name and leave. They bill the insurance company and there is no deductible. If I break mine, I'm getting a HUD windshield and I don't even have HUD. I'd have it put in, just in case I want to add a HUD at a later date. But apparently, some states don't require insurance companies to automatically cover all windshields with no deductible coverage.

Ok, to sum it up...

Yes, Virginia, there IS a special HUD windshield for Camaro.

Yes, if you don't use it, you WILL get a double reflection from your windshield on the HUD.

No, you do NOT have to buy a HUD windshield for your HUD to display. It just won't be as crisp. And do not try to lie and say it is, because it is not. Unless you have bad eyesight and think it is, it won't matter anyway, then. You'll need to spend the money you save on a windshield on new corrective eye lenses.

If you choose not to buy the correct windshield, that's ok, just don't try and tell the rest of us who know the facts that they're the same. Same with whatever it is that it cost you out of pocket. Let's check the give a sh!t meter. It says....NOPE!

That should settle it. But likely not. There's always someone who refuses to believe.

The Hud is just a light that projects on the Glass and the glass is completely transparent thats why you can see it because some light is stopped at the window.

Thank you ... Saying there is no difference is like saying there is no difference between premium and regular fuel. Will either fuel work? Sure.. but one surely works better. Same with the windshields.

Windshield

To clarify, there is definitely a difference and if you have HUD you should request a HUD windshield. Even if you go with aftermarket, they are manufactured differently than a non-HUD windshield. All of the aftermarket windshields must meet DOT standards so feel free to use whichever brand you prefer as long as it is a HUD windshield.

Let me know if I can help you as I work for a major glass company.

Hello guys, I need to renew my glass due to a large crack happed last night, could anyone recommend a reputable shop around Houston? I can accept aftermarket glass with minor difference about the HUD effect since I will pay it out of pocket :(
Thanks in advance!

I can say this as it happened to me. Windshield broke had it replaced. Yes the hud will work but you get a ghosting reflection. Like one over the other. Plus you see the reflection of the hud. It bothered me as my eyes had trouble focusing on one set of numbers. So had a oem installed. Now no issues. So yes it is different glass.

Is the glass itself different or is it a Coating used on the glass.

For those of us that do not have glass coverage and would like not to spend $800 on a windshield. Is there somthing......DIY like a film or a coating that would work with non-HUD glass?

My windshield has taken lots of hits from rocks and debris. I keep patching the chips with the $10 repair kit I got from wallyworld, so far no cracks.

Thanks for experience sharing. I heard some other members mentioned there is also a kind of glass in aftermarket that supports HUD reflection. One of the repairers quoted me $599 for mobile repair and stated the effect will be as good as the factory installed one.
